I've also got some English Oak with a piece of Merbau running up the centre and that would look great when I find a razor for it.
I *may* also be able to get some Oregon and other exotic timbers; but things like Western Red Cedar and Cypress may be easier for me to get than most. I'd love to get some Jarrah and as it is I have a Karri tree in my backyard (in NSW!!) but I couldn't use any of the wood on it yet, it's only 3 years old despite being 3.5m high which is very fast growing for a Eucalyptus, even for a Karri that's fast.
I may have a tad bit of TAD (Timber acquisition disorder).
Edit: if anyone wants any of the Oak or even Oak with Merbau... Just hit the PM button. It's not thicknessed yet so you would need to have the ability to do that to make it useable.

Hey lads, there are quite a few very old Bengalls on eBay currently maybe even pre-Cadman. There is a nice one that has no makers mark but the Bengall type font on the tang looks right, horn scales apparently for $40US, looks pretty good. Thoughts?
I know this is not the eBay part of the forum but it is specific to Bengall so I thought I might get a bit more know how here.
I am thinking of making a 7 day set...

There's a few local for around $40 I see! I couldn't find the US one you mention.
$40 seems reasonable you could spend $60 on it restoring it and it would be nicer than a $100 Dovo (depending on taste of course)

Yeh it was my first restore and scales but yes the blade had a crack in it just before where the scallop stops, so after an easy negotiation with the vender who didnt realise the crack either it cost $8, so went for it,
it does shave is a PITA to hone as it is very thin and flexy, also I have been contemplation making it into a kamisoriSaved,

Hi guys (and gals out there), does anyone know when Bengall started stamping "TR Cadman & Sons Ltd" on their razors, I noticed the other day I have a very thin Bengall, it probably was a 4/8" (~13mm) to start with, the scales are only about that wide too.
Anyway it is the only razor of 4 that has the LTD after TR Cadman & Sons. I would assume this is a later model rather than earlier but was just curious if anyone had any information on the dates of the trademarks.
All of the razors have Sheffield stamped in them.

Thanked: 580If it says England also, post 1891, if not pre 1891. They have been around for a while, and apparently more than one manufacturer used the name Bengall, although I have only seen Cadman examples down our way. That's all I know.

Yeah I have seen examples of other Bengall razors, none in person but in pictures. I read somewhere that a Swiss company was using the Bengall name up until Luke Cadman was granted the trademark in the 1700s. I just wasn't sure when the compan started stamping the Ltd (short for "limited" I'm sure) into the tang as well; which meant the business had become a company as opposed to a sole propieter; now I only assume this because that's how it works in Australia and we are of course still part of the commonwealth and our laws are all based in the British systems for better and worse. Perhaps there were tax benefits to be gained maybe from a reduction in sales and they could write off more expenses, maybe this was for an increase in exports or who knows what but I was just curious as to when the change occurred.
