Hey you all, new member here, joining for this thread. I found a Shumate straight razor in an old house about 20 years ago while moving some things for a friend in high school. It's been in boxes through a half moves and recently surfaced in my most recent home. It never occurred to get it restored. Here are a few pics. Let me know if it's a good candidate or needs to be kept in my desk as a weapon.

It says 421 Barber's Pet on one side, Simmon's Hardware Co, Made In Germany on the other, the box is in good shape for the age, but there's a notch in the blade that I'm not sure of.

That chip won't allow it to be usable as a razor. Just keep it as a display or a knickknack maybe. Sorry. My Simmons hardware is a nice shaver.

I figured. Oh well it can still be used in a pinch if shenanigans occur. It does slice paper so it should cut tomfoolery also.

I bought his Shumate 018 the first week of January. It was rusted and didn't look good at all. It sent it to Bob Keyes of Bob's Razors and he did wonderful work on the razor.

I have been using it for over a week now. It is an excellent shaver.

Here are some bfore and after pictures.

My 4th and newest Shumate. 11/16 Shumate Barber, never used or honed, perfect mint condition. I'll try and get a good picture of the paperwork later today. Name: uploadfromtaptalk1359035384365.jpg

Well I got my Shumate Antiseptic Barber Razor in today. It seems to be in great condition except for a little rust around one of the pins. The scales are original and are in good condition. When I opened her up to check the blade, it was in great condition. Although it was only sharp enough to cut butter. It was so dull, it would not cut hair at all!!! So out come the stones and strops and I go to work. Wow, its a shaver now!! Except I have not shaved with it yet. Cant wait though!! I wonder why it is called antiseptic though?
