Thread: Mastro Livi Razor Club

I've had two regrinds for some time now, but just scored my first Livi custom, a 6/8ths Takeda Damascus, on ebay two weeks ago.
I really like the Livi razors, but most of the used ones (what I can afford) are 7/8ths or larger and, while I can and do shave with 7/8ths blades, they are not my favorites. I prefer 6/8ths or 13/16ths.
This one is a killer shaver, perhaps the best I've ever used. Rather a unique blade with the rounded transition from shank to blade and the slight dreadnought point with the blade just a bit longer than the spine. A more pleasing version than the Puma 1938 with a full dreadnought. No filing on the spine, the layers of Damascus speak volumes about the skill of the craftsman that made the steel.
Jimps top and bottom on the shank.
Scales are Olive wood.
Understated elegance. This is a classy razor in my opinion.Last edited by Hawkeye5; 03-02-2010 at 05:01 AM.

Here are my two regrinds. Great shavers also. I could "get by" with just these three razors if push came to shove.
The top one is scaled in Bocote, purchased from Lynn on BST around three years ago when he listed three or four regrinds. I don't recall that happening again.
The bottom one is scaled in Ebony Madagascar. Note the more elaborate spine work on this razor. When I saw it on SRD I was hooked.Last edited by Hawkeye5; 03-02-2010 at 04:46 AM.

The patterns on both are beautiful but the scrimshaw work on the mammoth is gorgeous. Did that come from Livi or was it subbed out ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Congrats, John. I have the same razor, but in 7/8 square point which I prefer. I like the simple design and plain olivewood, as they do not take attention away from the main attraction which is the takeda damascus blade. It cost me, used, the equivalent of 14 plain jane razors which I sold here awhile back to pay for it, but yes, it is one special razor.

If you have a set of allen wrenches there is one that will be a close fit good enough to tighten it up. I just don't recall if it is metric, more than likely it is.
One of mine required a bit more. The female end needed to be shortened before it would tighten up well and not flop around. I just filed some material away until I had the feel I wanted.
If you just can't find what is needed, shoot me a PM. I have two regrinds and think I could spare one wrench.
