Interesting find out there in the wild, I do hope you get your questions answered.
Hi Stefan, it says Miyabun Special Selection.
宮文特選
I also found this,
http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ack-razor.html
And Miyabun, seems to be a knife shop in Hokkaido, but might be a different Miyabun.
Hope this helps.
Sergio
Hey guys, i did a lot of research on this one but i can't seem to find any info on it...i've been trough the japanese kanji markings 3-4 times but i give up....my head is spinning....i need your help identifying this one please.Attachment 262169
The top 2 kanji mean Tamahagane, cant say who the maker is though.
Thank you... the maker is waht i can't also find.
At this moment, I don't have the slightest idea...
Hope it can be found!
I have gone trough all the kanji symbols...and the Iwasaki page for the last 2-3 hours and i could not find anithyng that would match. I even looked at the iwasaki tamahagane markings because i thaught the tamahagane kanji looked similar at some point...but no luck...can't find anything anywhere.
Oh well i'll keep looking...can't be the only one out there. Thank you Fikira...your blog is the best!
also it does not have the usual iwasaki notch at the top and no markings on the tang...so it's probably has nothing to do with iwasaki...it looks old
While shopping my at Daiso, my little girl "needed" to get this lamp. We're pretty curious about what it says
Attachment 263130
Attachment 263129
She's pretty sure it says
K
O
W
L
Cool looking 'lamp' :tu
Please forgive me for what I am about to write.
These days even though it was bought in a 'Japanese' store, it probably says 'Made In China' :banghead:
I do hope you find out what the markings actually say.
Yes, of course it's made in China. That was actually written on the battery compartment in English.:rofl2: Daiso is pretty much the Japanese equivalent of a dollar store. Unfortunately that's just the way it goes nowadays. My kids watch a lot of anime so my 5 year old loves any of the things she sees on her shows. I have very fond memories of the 14 month I spent in Japan. We have a couple books of Japanese folk stories for kids that we both enjoy reading too. We're actually a little obsessed with Japanese culture.

hope this helps
Probably too hard to read, but no better pics till I have the razor in hand. Any help would be great. Hopefully it will give some hint of the actual age too.

Attachment 263467
Don't know if this is any easier to read.
That's a really hard one I think...
Maybe, just maybe, some of those kanji are:
持級証 = Ji-kyū-shō = "Certificate of grade"
登録商標 = Tōroku shōhyō = Registered trademark
... しろ = shiro = white
捺代退 = ?
Not sure at all! Hope to find more information in the future,
I'm also very curious about it!
Jethro,
If you need me to try closer up pic of each one I can try.
There was also some written on the box, unfortunately it is mostly gone. I am going to shave with this one tonight.
Attachment 263477
I will work on close up pics tonight. Shave last night was very nice. I need to work on my shaving maneuvers with a kamisori though. As this was my first shave with one. I find it easier for something's and harder for others. No issues though. I really liked the feel of it in my hand while shaving.
I tried my best using phone and loop to take close ups.

Well, very nice effort taking those pics! Thanks!
I'm going to try my best to figure it out
It will take some time though, so in a couple of days I just maybe know a bit more,
if Arsenico hasn't figured it out in the meanwhile of course!
I hope he can, cause it really looks like a difficult one!
:gl:
Thanks Jethro. I believe the forth one down is trade mark. It looks like the same I see on other blades from my searching. That is about all I can find though.
I searched a lot,
and found little, maybe they are hentaigana (obsolete kanji)
Attachment 263828Attachment 263827
持級証 = Ji-kyū-shō = "Certificate of grade"
(級 = Attachment 263820 )
登録商標 = Tōroku shōhyō = Registered trademark
Then, possibly:
Attachment 263829Attachment 263830Attachment 263831
Attachment 263821 = Mi
Attachment 263822 = So
> modern version = みそ
> みその 【三曾野】= Misono (Family or surname)
And then:
- Attachment 263823 > modern kanji = む(mu) or 舞(mai)
- Attachment 263824 = よ(yo) or 代(dai)
- 禄? (roku) or 祿? or 退? (shisa)
- Attachment 263825 or Attachment 263888 =す(su) or 寿 / 壽(Kotobuki)
(or Attachment 263887 = ず = zu)
That would be then (possibly): Muyo (Roku)zu
Or something like that...
Pretty useless I'm afraid, besides that it could be really old kanji and thus a really old Orihi (kamisori)
which we already knew ... :shrug:
Sorry, I'm afraid I can't help much more...
Thanks Jethro. It is more than I could figure out myself. Very interesting though. I am glad it is a wonderful shaver. Someone knew what they were doing when they made it.
Fikira I am really impressed by your work and effort, really.
Hentaigana...yes it could be...
This style of writing sometimes can be seen on stamps, the square ones in red usually.
I am sure you've seen them on some Inoue Tosuke papers.
The point is that it is really hard to figure it out.
The best thing I can do is to show this to some of my japanese friends and see...
I am afraid it won't help a lot though
can you tell me what kanji says on box and razor thank you
Attachment 265247
If I may barge in again...
Box:
日本カミソリ No.1 = Japanese razor (kamisori) No.1 (probably Size)
藤助 = Tosuke
Razor:
ニュー = Nyū = "new"
藤助 = Tosuke
Thank you
Please help with the Kanji on the tang and scales. Thanks.
Hi Richard, it is a nice 瑞鳳 Zuiho.
You can find some for sale on Ebay.
Don't have info on this though.
I had one of these razors, but I never used it.

Hey! I am curious about these. Both on the blade and the box (I hope it's readable). Thanks :)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b4231eb196.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...83b9cd8279.jpg

Just received this Tanifuji.
The rear side of the tang (bottom rhs picture) has the Tanifuji Kanji but I'm wondering what the Kanji is on the show side of the tang (top rhs picture).
Anyone have an idea?
