I don't mind giving my opinion when asked. I won't follow the herd and say "Nice Looking Razor" if it isn't. I will agree with others if I think I'm right about something. I try to help out if I can but if I am wrong about something, I'm never afraid to admit it. As far as a custom made razor, who am I to point out any flaws? I'll be the first to say I don't know it all plus I learn something new everyday.

To me it's like sending emails at work to someone who totally screwd the pooch (and I have to clean up the mess). No matter the blood and guts that have to be cleaned up, you still have to communicate tactfully if you are going to be effective.

My grandmother always said, "Shut your pie hole."

These days we say, "Opinions are like ________, everybody has one, but nobody wants to hear about it."

That being said; if a razor might put a beginner at risk, those with more experience should offer friendly cautions.

Now, if y'all will pardon me, I think I'll have another bourbon.
Smarter than I look or, not as dumb as I look. Whichever you prefer.

I would definitely prefer someone to speak, particularly as a newbie, it stops me carrying blissfully unaware that I'm not doing stuff right or thinking that I had a great razor when it's blatantly not.
As long as the comments and observations are not malicious and are posted with good intent to educate then please say anything.
If you were out with a friend and noticed he'd forgotten to pull his zipper up, would you mention it to him so he could rectify his absent mindedness or just let him carry on displaying his wares to the world?
By joining this forum we are hopefully making new friends and I would hope that a friend would always look to put me right.

    A most interesting thread Glen.
If advise is asked I will offer my thoughts if I think I know enough to be of help. Mostly it's what JimmyHAD said.
Constructive criticism is not always well received. The sad part is without the constructive criticism the learning curve is greatly extended.

It is human nature to dislike being criticised and I'm sure most here would accept that. I certainly don't.
However, there are ways and means for someone to be criticised without getting that persons back up.
Constructive criticism coming from someone with more knowledge and experience is something I however, would value highly.

It's not what you say but rather the manner in which you say it.

Yes, good advice delivered with all the diplomatic skill of a kick in the groin with a frozen mukluk is not very effective.

I think this is quite true. People looking to make razors just for shaving have some hefty competition...why should anyone buy from you? It's a tough question to answer. But if you can craft something that is more of a work of art and less of a bathroom tool, the question doesn't need to be asked, because the answer is obvious: someone will buy because the art speaks to them in a way that others' doesn't.

That's not to say that art and function can't be combined, of course; I'm just saying that function doesn't need to be the primary concern for something that may be mostly for show. However, it should function, or it's just a pretty RSO.
