I can appreciate the craftsmanship and quality displayed here, but it still seems to look like a novelty. I know that is not the case, but i would rather have an older, more traditional razor.

see my signature.... i will never own another round point, they just look feeble in comparison to a spike point or barber notch

I don't like goldwash. I don't like the way it looks. But then again I don't like gold on anything. My wedding band is tungsten.

I also don't like the way 4/8 and smaller razors look. They may shave great, I don't know. I'm really not interested in finding out.

Anything rusty pitted & neglected & unhoned is ugly to me yet some collectors may find it beautiful.
I'm ok with patina but the blades gotta 'work'
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

JimmyHAD, ha those razors are exactly what i don't like but you love them, I'm very minimalistic in what I love, I prefer classy to showy things.

    Vive la difference!

    cheers

I like both ends of the spectrum although as you would see if you were to view my collection/accumulation I am a traditionalist at heart. A bit of the other once in awhile keeps life interesting.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Same here. Sure, I have certain elements that I prefer in a razor, but literally nothing comes to mind that I just don't like and wouldn't have.

Yet this is an entirely acquired obsession. Back before I shaved with straights, I thought they were all degrees of ugly, odd, and flimsy looking. Being mentally used to knives, the idea of a pivot on a sharp instrument that could rotate almost 360 degrees without locking at some point, and with minimal tension holding the blade in position anywhere, just seemed inherently foolish and flimsy to me.

Then I switched from electrics and cartridges to vintage DEs, and learned how to get a decent shave. From that point, straights made a lot more sense to me. Now seems inevitable looking back that I would have ended up using and loving straights, and I'm fascinated with them. Life is funny.

Scales, wedges and pins don't really bug me, and I don't pay too much attention to them. I like to look at the metal itself. That being said, I find framebacks to be ugly, personally. It looks like they're about to break or something. I like a nice solid looking piece of metal. Just my 2 cents.

I really like the classic, simple look of straight razors. Doesn't matter whether round or square, but the older square, round end and pointy end of the scale design have a really appealing look to them. I do like the old bone, MOP, ivory and horn, but some of the plastics and wood are fine too. When it comes to re-scales, I am pretty open so long as they have a more traditional look to them. I am really not a fan of flashy, but abalone can be beautiful. So can some of the older and newer carved typed scales.

I guess the thing I dislike the most are the new razors that look like modern pocket knives. This goes for both scales and the shape of the razor. I have found most of these pretty hard to strop and hone too.

Traditional shapes on razors just have a simple elegance for me.

I do try to keep an open mind though because there is definite art involved in this sport..........

    Guess I'm just getting old..........

    Lynn
