Love the Swedish steel, I haven't had a bad one.

I have a bunch of Heljestrand MK's lying around, only one in active rotation. I have some restoring to do on one 30, two 31's, one 32 and a 33.

That is some "Swedish Love" lol. You should post a pick with them all side by side one day.

Do you have any from your other neighbor worth loving? I don't hear much about Russian blades... I know they had them, but I never hear anything. Must be a reason : ).

Russian blades do take a very good edge, fit and finish leaves alot to be desired IMO,they look very industrial.

I think so! As you know from reading this thread lol.
Note - they sell "well" if you don't like it.

I got most of my Heljestrands in a large lot that I mainly bought for these, although some other really nice ones came along. I have to do quite some fixing up and then the difficult task of deciding what I keep and what gets passed on. I feel it's safe to say that most of the MK's stay of course.

I don't actually have any Russian razors. Quality wise, I've heard nothing but good about them. Aesthetics are another thing though and they're relatively hard to find (as far as I know).

You find the steel on these soft? Compared to what, hardened tool steel? LOL

I detail my razors by hand so I really notice the difference between the various steels.
I am working on currently on some Heljestrands (Mk No.31 & No32) and other Swedish makes.
Eskilstuna steel is very pure, soft and smooth like butter. In no time you can eat through a lot of metal.
Donīt you find it easy to hone Heljestrand razors compared to razors from other countries?

By comparison Filarmonicas are almost twice as hard, which the reason must be primarily from the tempering as I am 90% sure they (and the other big name Spanish razors) are made from Swedish steel as well.
Of course this is just my opinion.
I have made a knives from hardened tool steel (the blades were used to cut sheet metal) and that is another story all together.
