The main differences (in general) I noticed between using soap and cream are:
a) You have to load much more with soap (hardly with cream)
b) You need more water with soaps (which is logical as creams contain more water to begin with)
These things vary between soaps and creams, but in the end I don't notice much difference in shaving with either. That depends more on the ingredients of individual products. I lather in a bowl again nowadays since it's much easier to control the lather quality.
Add water sparsely until you have a dense lather that looks wet but doesn't run. I stroke some of it on the edge of my bowl to see if it drips. If it does, I swirl on a bit, maybe add some product. I aim to push the water level of my lather, and add as much water as it possibly holds, but I add gradually in small amounts because it's quite easy to add too much.

It's been a while since I worked on this, but there has been a proliferation of Heljestrand numbers I don't have. If you gentlemen could please, take a look at this chart, and tell me if you have a MK number not represented on there. If you have something that is not listed, please PM me with exact measurements and I will update the chart.
Thanks!

Got an M(3 crowns)K No. 7. The "No." has a couple of underlines under it. The mark side is stamped C.V. Heljestrand in a sort of arc over Elskituna, Sweden in a straight line. It is an 11/16 (measuring from the top of the spine) 1/4 hollow with black bakelite scales and a white wedge. Great shaver too BTW.

Sooooo... resurrecting this thread... I figure it's better than just adding another to the MANY of C.V Heljestrand (I hope someone actually see it )...
had to ask you guys, i've seen a CV Heljestrand Eskilstuna "N°6" and a "MK N°6".. they just look the same... but i'm confused for the lack of either MK, RK, or BK on the one that only has N°6
On other posts here it seems like it could be M. K. = Magnus Kindal, B. K. Berte Kindal and R. K. Rickard Kindal, But also it seems like it could indicate the difference of making...
i've read also that the MK N°6 is made of a different steels, even harder than other models...
any idea if then the ones with no MK are just crappy?
that would be really sad cause I'm about to clean, polish, re-scale (possibly ebony or black horn) and hone this one:
please let e know if anyone has the ones without the "MK" .. would love to know your impressions, especialy if you can compare it with the MK6honing my mind...

I have owned two #6's as well. Some one told you a story; the razors all use the same steel, there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. The #6 is unique in that it has a thumb notch and closely resembles the MK31. You should check out this thread, it explains the K stands for quality and the M stands for Hollow-ground. They are catnip to me!!
