Default Broken Promise Monday Sept 13

    Gentlemen,

I know I promised the second Bob Allman razor would be featured today, but I overslept (hence no pic) and couldn't bring myself to shave hastily with one of Bob's works of art.

I've decided that I'll feature it Wednesday evening as I want to see how she handles two days' beard growth - probably a silly idea as the razor I featured Sunday performed flawlessly on two days' beard growth.

    Today's Shave:

Prep: Wash face with almond/oatmeal soap, hot towel
    Shave soap: C&E Sandalwood
    Shave cream: C&E Sandalwood
    Brush: shavemac best badger
    Razor: Boker 4/8

I know I was bragging the other day about this little "Donkey" of a Boker, but I'd be less than honest if I didn't admit that it was somewhat of a let-down to shave with after shaving with Bob's masterpieces. Still beats shaving with a Gillette any day!

    Gillette Old Type w/ Sharpedge
    New Forest 2201
KD Creations Sage & Citrus sc
    Thayers Cucumber WH w/ aloe
    KD Creations a/s milk
    Woods of Windsor Edt

I feel strange posting a DE shave here but I had such great results with the KD Creations products that I thought I'd risk the ire of the hard core straight razor folks by pasting this SOTD here. After a two day layoff, I thought I'd go with the Old Type DE. The KD Creations cream makes lather that is wonderfully thick and cushioning and had great results after two passes with more than enough for a two pass head shave. Karen's after shave milk is very soothing and the finish with the Woods of Windsor is a definite WOW.

Result: I honed up the Novelty Sunday night using a progression of Coticule (dilucot method), Naniwa 12K, and Escher (using 1 layer of tape). Wowwwww...This thing was wickedly sharp and smooth...HHT passed effortlessly with just the weight of the hair barely touching the edge. CarrieM's "Citrus & Sage" creme mixed with Mama Bear's Almond soap led to an amazingly thick and moist lather. The combination of a great prep, the rich überlather and the sharp Novelty led to a satisfyingly close, BBS, irritation-free shave. The utterly smooth result had my wife constantly touching my face, nodding approvingly. Another 20 seconds of this and I will be calling in sick today .

    Thanks Rene,
The scales are indeed interesting...They are custom madrone scales by Doug Marcotte (I think). This is what was described when I got the blade some months ago from Preston McConkie.

Been away from here for a day or two, had to drive the youngin back to college.

    Today:
Hot shower, cold pressed soap pre-shave
Warm oil from NY Shave Club
    Dirty bird Scuttle
    Castle Forbes SC
    Dubl Duc
    AOS Aluminum blacok
    Stephens Lavender AS

The DD makes a lot more noise than the W&B. Seems to be much lighter but a great shave. More importantly I was finally able to get the Castle Forbes to lather the way I like it. Needed to add much more water than with other creams. I finally understand why so many like it. When done properly, it provides a great lather.
