    Default A long time coming....

Ogallala Bay Rum -- Omega 31025 -- Case's Ace -- Royall Bay Rhum

I love this razor. A lot. It really is the best of my collection of Case razors, and getting my hands on meant ticking off one of the biggest boxes I had on my list of razors I want to own.
    Have a great sunday guys!

Again with the DSL problems (I hope they have the problem fixed for good). We have fiber optic line that runs straight to the house and when we lose service the telephone company is always dumb founded (read, they dispatch a technician, find nothing, and then it “suddenly” starts working again in a day or 3). This time they said it was a central networking card at the main station that had to be replaced...we'll see

I finished this restoration (I'll post in that thread later today)and have been dialing in the edge over the last few days. I've been following Robert & Rene's lead and using the same cream and brush so I can determine what is happening with the edge. I did have a minor accident while taking today's photo, I dropped the razor and it landed on the tip of the wedge and put some small dents/scuffs on it...

    The gear & prep:

    Prep:Hot Shower
    Scuttle: Dirty Bird Custom Double
    Brush: TGN Premium Silvertip 24mm
Strop:SRD PIV English Bridle (only on Sunday)
Cream:Frankincense, Myrrh, & Vetiver Custom Bomb
Razor: Wade & Butcher in Amboyna Burl
After shave: Ogallala Bayrum & Sandalwood(love this stuff)
    EDT: Cartier “Roadster”

Friday's honing progression: Norton 1k/4k/8k, Naniwa 12K, Shoubudani Asagi 100 laps w/ slurry, then shave (no stropping).
Result:VERY sharp, smoothness was a bit lacking, a very nice shave though.
Saturday's honing: Shoubudani Asagi 100 laps water only, then shave, (again no stropping).
Result:Very Sharp and quite smooth, an improvement over Friday's shave.
Today: Shoubudani Asagi 20 slow laps plain water, strop 60 leather.
Result:A very nice shave today, I think the edge is right where I want it, the scale is slightly tipped to the sharpness side, yet the smoothness side is right there.

Last week was amazing Gents and this week is off to an excellent start!

    Cheers!

    Glenn

Well, I use Al´s soap more often I thought it was in my head only, but it actually is thicker, and like I wrote: I like it

Mid Afternoon shower on a quiet Sunday. Preparing for a week of 3 hour commuting to finish the training class I started in JANUARY!! Ughhhh almost over.
    Long hot shower
    Warm Oil
    Dirty Bird Scuttle
Uber lather as instructed by Rene. AOS Sandlewood Soap and Cella Shave Cream. Drop of glycerine.
Wade and Butcher, Barbers Notch Hollow
Stropped 45 on felt 60 on leather
    AOS Aluminum
    Lilac Vegetal
    Vaseline for men.

The mixed the lather the way Rene explained yesterday and it was very thick and creamy. I really enjoyed the lather. I did not really understand how to do the "Uber" thing until Rene explained it. After my last shave with a razor honed by me which needs more work I decided I wanted a comfortable shave today. I whipped out this Wade and Butcher because it was last honed by Glenn and I only used it for one shave since. I stropped it and then attacked the 2 day growth on my face.
The combination of the wonderful lather and the freshly honed razor was very, very nice. Knocked the whiskers off as the W&B glided over the thick lather. Just a wonderful shave on a beautiful afternoon.

Thanks out to Glenn and Rene. Enjoy the day.

What a nice shave José. Great camera too. BTW: I wonder what the "1/2" in Friodur numbering means. I have a #17 and yours is a #17 1/2. Any ideas?

I love this case too David. But it looks like you're the guy that's cleared off all Bay Rum products from the shelves of every vendor I know.

Oouuuchhhh Brother. Sorry to hear about the dents on the blade. Can they be taken care of easily or are they permanently damaged?

I must say that you've done quite a nice job restoring this W&B...I love Amboyna Burl.

    Regarding Friday's Honing:
When you do the Asagi + slurry, do you end it with water only or finish it and very thin slurry only?

Looks like you figured out where you want to be with this stone/honing. Congrats

That is one heck of an Uberlather Jeff. Rene knows what he's talking about. The Cella certainly adds the "umph" to this combo.

PS: Just hang in there a little longer for the training class buddy. As you said: you're almost there.
