Thanks for the appreciation Rebert....By the side of that Henckels....
The explanation of the numbers is cryptic to me,....probably is written in a neglected book of the darkest corner of the Henckels's archive....But I have some Henckels , including 2 17 and a 17 1/2, at a 1st look:
The scales are the same color, but the 17 1/2 a bit larger
17 is spike point, 17 1/2 is round point
17 1/2 is a bit larger blade (4mm)
17 1/2 is thicker than 17, especially in the tang, where it doubles the 17
17 1/2 is heavier, not very much, but it feels heavier
Both are full hollow, but the 17 is more in the singing side than the 17 1/2
Both, and this is the best new for us, are terrific at shaving, keep the edge long time with few maintenance and are easy to honing. I am a very happy owner of those razors.....of course the 17 1/2 is much much much much better because I've got it and you don't.....Last edited by du212; 05-02-2011 at 07:39 AM.

Monday morning
Monday is here, and a fine morning it is!Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: Taylor of Old Bond Street, 30mm Super Badger Razor: Charlie Lewis Custom, 8/8 Mammoth Ivory scales. Spike Point Strop: C-Mon Vel-edge, cordovan Shell Soap/Cream: AlRaz Shaving Cream, Palermo Astringent: Osma Alum After shave Balm: AlRaz ASB Palermo EdT: Penhaligon's English Fern Results: A very satisfactory shave. I seem to have reached a level in my honing where I can pretty much get "my" edge regardless of grind, steel and Size. A great feeling! I will keep trying further, 'cause honing is fun, and there is much more to learn

So today is the last of a 3 blade test. Thes edge was very smooth but was slightly less sharp than the 2nd razor. I use My new SC from the bomb "Bill's custom scent Vetiver" Awesome scent
Vestavia Brush
The Bomb Custom Bill's Vetiver
So this is how i rate the blades
Sharpnes Smoothness
#1 8 8.5
#2 9.5 9
#3 9 9.5
My guess is that 2nd razor was on the Shapton pros and the 3rd is on a Jnat. We wont know till Robert finds his notes. LOL!
