    Merkur Vision/Perma-Sharp Blade/MWF/Bestshave Horsehair #6/Osaga Rub/Royal Copenhagen cologne

I'm working night shift tonight and I have some time for a nice slow relaxing shave. First off it's my first time with the wool fat and I really didn't have high expectations for it. I assumed it was over rated. I have pretty hard well H20 too, so I expected some problems. Well, as with ASSUMPTION you know what can happen. BAM !!!!!!! the lather just exploded on my trusty horsehair, a few swirls in the Old spice mug and it's gushing over the sides !!!! This soap is suppose to be hard to lather ? I certainly didn't expect this. Then to the face, thick really creamy lather, feels good. My 1st impression, well hmmm, this is a darn good soap.

Then on to the Vision, it's Big, real big. I usually like smaller razors. What was I thinking buying this thing? .......... Thirty seconds into the first pass and this vision is so well balanced. The size is not a distraction at all. Very maneuverable and nimble. Once into the groove, the size feels just right. This thing is slick.

Three gentle passes, and I've been rewarded with a total BBS shave, and my skin feels so soft. The MWF and vision have performed exceptional. I am blown away by these two on my first use. Hopefully all future shaves with these products will be of the same caliber.

Great shaves today. Gentlemen have a good evening.

I must say that you've done quite a nice job restoring this W&B...I love Amboyna Burl.

    Regarding Friday's Honing:
When you do the Asagi + slurry, do you end it with water only or finish it and very thin slurry only?

Looks like you figured out where you want to be with this stone/honing. Congrats
Thanks for the kind words Robert. The dents are actually on the scales and will be there unless I sand through the finish and redo them (that's not gonna happen anytime soon as I broke 2 pairs of scales on this restore due to my clumsiness already). Regarding Friday's honing, I did dilute the slurry, but never to plain water. I'm experimenting with this hone to see what works best. It is definitely a slow cutter and requires more laps. Compared to my other Asagi, it is harder (based on how long it takes to generate slurry) and seems to cut slower.

Oh man. Im sorry to hear you dropped it. Its a good thing it was only the top and it didnt beak the blade.

Congrats on getting your edge where you want it. Good thing to use only one cream. Something that will always perform.

Thanks Rene. I have to give you and Robert credit for the idea of using 1 cream for honing experiments. It makes complete sense to limit as many variables as possibles so you can know what the changes are doing to the shave. Glad to hear you and Jeff were able to meet up. I'm still hoping to make it up east late in the summer.

    David,
Congrats on your virgin voyage with MWF. It truly is an amazing soap (as long as you're not allergic to it). I am sure that your future shaves with this soap (and other gear you mentioned) will be just as wonderful, if not better. Well done.

I see Glenn...I am glad that it's scale rather than blade.

Excellent experiment...If I may be so bold (hope you don't mind) as to recommend doing the slurry and finishing it with water only. See the edge pop ever so sharply and smoothly!!

Yeah...unless you are using Al's creme, or MdC soap, or La Toja Manantiales (and I am sure a few others)

    Matt,
Totally understandable. You (and your mom) have been on my mind (and in my prayers) all week long my friend. Hang tough as the family needs a solid anchor and you may be that foundation. If you need someone to talk to, you know how to reach me.

My thoughts and best wishes go out to you and your family. Hang in there and do things that you think she would have liked, that´s how I still do things and my pa died 10 years ago - I should have started when he still was alive .
