Week of July 3 SOTD - Wednesday
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: 24mm Morris & Forndran, 2-band Blonde Badger (Bone Handle) Razor: 7/8" Giesen & Försthoff decorated back, Full Hollow Ground, Spike Point Strop: 40/55 laps (Torolf linen / SRD Premium IV leather) Überlather: Acca Kappa "1869" Shave Creme + Acca Kappa "1869" Shave Soap + Glycerin Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol) Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Amber AS Cologne: Acca Kappa "1869" EdC Results: Today was one of those marvelous shaves. I scored this Giesen & Försthoff from Don Adelman some 8 months ago... She is not to be mistaken with those newer, cheesy G&F's that are seen on the bay from time to time. This beautiful vintage takes on (and holds) one of the best edges I have experienced on a razor . With the Acca Kappa über, she delivered one of the closest shaves of my wetshaving life . This will definitely not be forgotten. I literally had to run my hands across my face to be sure that I was not dreaming and the shave actually did happen . ÜberCBS and übersmooth and zero irritation . I really love it when things just effortlessly fall into place.
Have a MARVELOUS Wednesday Gentlemen.

Maybe Paul, but the tools are necessities, LOL
Hang in there bro. One more day
LOOOOL. There will be many favorites for sure and many vintage ones to choose from. That's the fun part.
Fabulous looking razor Tom. I really like this setup
She's a beauty Otto. How would you rate the custom Livi compared to the newer grinds. I know you have both. Rumor has it, that the customs are much better made than the newer grinds
Oouuuch Béla...This is no good. When will they finish? I think José still has the best view of us all, even with the fires.
And beautiful picture too. Well done Jamie
Ooooh yeaaaah brother. That sounds nice. Why do you doubt if it's uber or not?
PS: nice Puma too
Congratulations B. Now remember; no skate boarding allowed for your age, LOOOL.
She's gorgeous my friend. Nice score. Framebacks are addictive. How did you hone her up?
Bill,
What a beautiful frameback. Nice choice. It's going to be a great day for you...show the judge who's boss
Super duper choices GI. Have a great day
Thank you mate
Nic,
Congrats on this fabulous score. She looks marvelous
Well done indeed Monroe

Thanked: 33July 4th -July 10th, A Week of SS Love.
40's style Super Speed/Voskhod Blade/Tabac/Vie Long Horsehair/an assortment of English Leather
Day three of the Love Fest continues. The 40 style SS to me, is like the girlfriend that you only visit after a night drinking with the boys. She's there, she's fun, but you definitely don't want to see her everyday. The creamy Tabac helped this old girl deliver a DFS that was just a bit rough around the edges. The vintage English Leather lotion, AS, and cologne made everything better.
Great Shaves today, Gentlemen.

I just love those days when Jupiter aligns with Mars
Great photo, great gear, but then again, what else is new?
Oh yes Sir, I've learned my lession
Thank you kindly!
As this one was very arc shaped, I decided to try something new with it.
Basically I did the entire honing on the side of my Chosera's. It was a bit tricky, but the results was surprisingly good
Then I finished it on a small Oozuku, using slurry, then diluting to water.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Well, I love them both. They are both top notch. It's hard to explain, they are both great razors but very different. The new grind is "just" 6/8 but gives a top of the line shave too. I still think the new grind ones are a great buy for the price. The custom 8/8 is a different razor both style and size wise. I would compare it to driving two different Fords; one a big block Crown Vic. the other one a Focus RS. Both fast and fun to drive but different.

Razor: Union Cutlery Spike Wedge Restored, honed by nun2sharp
Strop: Star Shaving 3" Big Daddy, wool & Leather
Styptic: Hemo Stop Styptic Pencil
AS: Tend Skin
Pre-Shave: Hot shower, followed by face soak, 4 drops 100% Virgin Olive Oil per side of face.
Soap: Omega Creme De Barba Shave Cream
Brush: Whipped Dog 22mm Silver Tip in wooden handle
Mug: 7" Monster Apple Lather Mug gifted from my wife (Love you honey!!)
AS: Genuine Ogallala Bay Rum & Lime & Peppercorn
Cologne: Vintage Drakkar Noir by Jordache
Where: Mountains of Colorado, near Idlewild
Result:
Simple but elegant shave for in the mountains. My new mug offers the best lather I have ever witnessed, keeping it warm by simply soaking the mug in HOT water first. It stayed warm thru 2 passes.
I finished up with a generous splash of OBR, followed a few minutes later by a spray or 2 (or 3) of the Vintage Drakkar Noir. I have been gifted with so many colognes and After shaves over the years that I never used, some not even opened. I'm having a ball now digging them all out and trying them after all these years. Good thing I'm a pack rat!!
Enjoy!!
Mike
First shot ....
Last shot ...
Funny how that works. The best pictures were the first shot and the last shot.
Happy shaving!!Last edited by mjhammer; 07-06-2011 at 08:33 PM.
