I'm really startig to like the look of these sort of non-folding razors (not sure what they're called). I'm guessing they're pretty expensive? I'm also wondering how one stores them; I have seen one on here I think with a little box. How do you stop the edge from being damaged?

They are Japanese razors, you can still buy them new you could pay the same for a Theirs-Issard so expense is relative. I too am tempted but its too much for me to pay out on a single shaving purchase!

I hope your grandson feels better soon. Nice to be able to come and find a friendly ear to listen and shoulder to lean on.

    Carl,

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your grandson. I can only imagine what this has been like for the past 14 weeks. I will certainly keep him in my thoughts, and I wish you all the grace I can send your direction as you cope with the situation.

They are called: Iwasaki Nihon Kamisori (Iwasaki is the brand and the manufacturer).

They are a bit expensive but each one is a piece of art IMO.

I received this Japanese razor a week ago, so now to maintain the edge I only strop her using a ratio 5:1 (omote:ura [ura is the kanji's side]) . When she needs to be honed I will use the 10:1 ratio or maybe 10:2, I will see.

I bought this one here (length blade: 60 mm)

I hope your grandson feels better soon.

Yeah, it's going to sound really weird, but this new hobby and this forum has helped. I'm a pretty solitary type person, I've never really had friends, but I do find I have some here :-) As I say, we do need to keep going, or else it all gets a little too difficult...Sorry again to post off topic!

Ta, again, only really posted it to help Baldy move on, everyone has 'issues', don't want to weigh everyone down with mine! I do find some of the witty posts here a sort of 'balance'. Thanks for your thoughts; and the word 'grace' is very topical....

These kids are amazing and inspirational. I know exactly what you mean, and thankyou for sharing. Bailey will be in my thoughts daily.
