Doing a ‘handover’ this week of my job to another person. Don’t you hate ‘handovers’? You sit there saying, "Well, this is what I do, but you may not want to do that, but I find it works, even though it’s against policy"…And you don't know if you should answer the phone or leave it up to them. The Public Sector seems to love this sort of thing, with people moving from position to position looking for something 'better' or more interesting. After the third day you’re fed up with the whole thing and sit there reading the paper to see how the Olympics are going, have you seen that German bike rider’s legs? Bigger than Tom Platz’s, and his were freaky. I’m not sure I’d really LIKE legs like that, though I saw a lady at the gym once who’s lats I’d like. She had decent arms too. I’d say, from the waist up, excluding the breast and face, I wouldn’t mind her body, it was certainly better than mine. Her legs weren’t bad either. So I’d take the top ½ and the bottom ½ without the middle. I’d keep my middle. And head. My head. Cause then I could shave. But she probably shaved too, actually. Anyway, I (and she too, as far as I know) used a Klas Törnblom razor today. Nice edge on this. I have a love/hate relationship with the scales.

I always enjoy your stories Carl, they always make me smile, anyway on to the photo, very Mark Rothko very abstract in a good way, fairly thought provoking photo if you left out the story and description.

Solgen | Thäter Fan | Bomb - Rose/Sandalwood | Lucido | Le Labo Rose 31 + MPG Santal Noble

I hadn't used the Bomb in a while. In fact, it seems I rarely use creams lately. But I was inspired to break out this most luxurious of custom scents. I had this made with pure Turkish Rose oil and a sandalwood oil, both of which I bought in Istanbul last summer. The scent is rich and opulent, and the lather is typical of Al's creations, which is to say it is divinely rich and full. The shave was going swimmingly until I started to day dream. That's when the razor reminded me that it has one hell of a spike on it. It was a good lesson learned that we are never too good at shaving with a straight to stop respecting the very sharp edge they carry!

Funny you should say that. I've been getting carried away with the 'Curves' adjustment in GIMP lately. I wanted to highlight the slimness of the scales, and thought this angle was a good way to do that. Then I played with the 'Curves' and ended up with this. I wanted a slightly 'washed out' look, really just the light yellow and a grey. I'm not sure I achieved it.

I like Rothko stuff. I like out of focus digital images that emulate that style. The picture below is of an analogue camera's lens taken with a digital camera intentionally out of focus. The funny thing is, I thought, "this is a nice photo, SOTD material no less, but it'll never make it because of the commentary". I actually considered deleting all the commentary and going with a more 'standard' version describing the shave (after all, that's what this thread is all about).
Then I thought, "No I won't, they know me, they know I say strange stuff, let them consider it..."

BTW, I posted that photo below on Flickr ages ago, and others like it, and someone said it looked like a Rothko. I'd never hear the name; I'm no art buff, I Googled it and saw the resemblance...

Prep: Hot Shower/ Proraso pre
Brush: Thater 4125-2 26mm Bulb
Scuttle:G5 filled with cold water
Soap: MNS Orange/Cedarwood/Black Pepper
Razor: Otto Busch Worldmaster #137, 6/8" square point in red G10 scales
Post: Proraso AS/ Nivea Lotion unscented
Result: I forgot how sweet and smooth the edge was on this razor! Coupled with the thick and creamy lather from Mikes soap O/C/B it was one slow relaxing shave. The razor is still a bit heavy in the scales and I am debating about thinning them some more to take off the weight, but that's half the fun, deciding what to do... Three passes and really smoooooth off to work feeling like a king.

LOL! Too funny! Have you ever seen Tom Platz ride a bike or play tennis. Freaky. Just not right.
