Thanked: 443Hey guys, not a shave post (sorry) but a note about the Heart of Darkness discussion... An amazing companion read is King Leopold's Ghost by Adam Hochschild. It's about how Leopold, King of Belgium, treated the Congo as his private colony. Turns out that Heart of Darkness was a work of journalism, not of fiction. Conrad actually commanded a riverboat on the Congo for a time.

Thanked: 0Just can't resist chiming in with the Conrad fans out there. I started with a collection of his short stories- Secret Sharer, Youth, Typhoon- and loved them! I've picked up some more and am looking forward to reading them. I think Polish may have been his first language, pretty sure it wasn't English but I feel like he had a better grasp of our language than I do. He was a merchant mariner as am I, and I've worked on some ships that are replicas for his period so I especaily like his sea stories.

So today was my 3rd time straight shaving. Didn't get the best lather. Iv been practicing just making the lather, dumping it out and then starting over, but this morning it just didnt get as nice as some of my trial runs. The shave went great, been working on using both hands which is coming along nicely. Only used the old Fusion to touch up under the chin and a few places on the neck.

Wee of September 9 SOTD - Tuesday (evening)
A (rare) evening shave
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: 30mm Morris & Forndran, 2-band Blonde Badger Razor: 7/8" Scheön Burg #666 "Special made for Barber", Frameback, Spike Point Honing (Refresh): 35 laps on LGP Coticule (w/ Dilucot method) + 40 laps on Y/G Escher w/ slurry dilution Strop: 0/0/0 laps (Neil Miller Linen / Imperial Shave Pegasus III Cordovan Latigo / Horsehide leather) Überlather: Tabac Shave Creme + Tabac Shave Soap + Glycerin Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel After Shave Splash: Tabac AS Cologne: Tabac EdT Results: An unusual and rare evening shave for me today. My wife and I are leaving very early AM tomorrow for San Diego (business and pleasure)...so, I had to do this in the evening. Well, at least if I wanted to enjoy the ritual rather doing it half asleep or rushed. Tabac was again the order of the day. This wonderful software deserves nothing less than a great hardware to go with it. The Toyo SB performed marvelously. The stiff grind was exactly what my beard needed since Saturday. I am BBS and ready for a little R&R with my wife and some friends. No shaving 'til (maybe) Sunday, when we get back to town.
Have a FANTASTIC rest of the week gentlemen . See you in a few days.
Cheers,
RobertLast edited by BladeRunner001; 09-12-2012 at 04:58 AM.
