There are many out there. I think mine was a regrind before I ever sent it to Max, since it's a hollow grind, and I really like it.

    Wednesday

Well, you’ll be happy to know I’m feeling rather chipper this morning. Happy, as now you won’t have to listen to me lament quite so much. I’ll still lament a little, but not like a Jewish woman at a funeral as I have been. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, especially if you’re a Jewish woman at a funeral, but if you’re a Jewish woman at a birthday party or an Australian man with a mild illness in the water works area, I guess one should display the emotions that best fit. I mean, imagine being a Jewish woman at a birthday party and acting like it was a funeral? I’m sure you’d get an odd look or two. It’s possible I need to control my lamenting. I’m sounding rather, how you say? melancholy lately. A little ‘dans une ambiance bleu’. I needed to Google that phrase, I can’t actually speak anything but English, unfortunately. If you use Google language tools and look up that phrase and translate it to French, and then click the ‘listen’ button, you get a really sexy French lady talking to you. I immediately felt like I was in a Foreign movie. Top Marks Google’s French lady. I might look up ‘in a blue mood’ in Spanish and see which one has the nicest lady translating it. Then again, it might be quite random and I’d get some Portugese drug dealer or labourer. That would really kill the mood. Maybe I shouldn’t try another one and rest quietly fantasising about how healthy the Swedish lady sounds, or how strong and supportive (and slightly scary) the Russian lady sounds. Maybe Google should make it so you can choose your person. You could choose by age, gender, occupation. Then maybe a few option buttons so you can select little nuances, like emotional state, number of alcoholic drinks. So you could choose an angry, drunk, 60 year old, Chinese bricklayer to tell you he was 'in a blue mood’ and not really feel like caring a great deal. OR, you could go for a tipsy, excited, young, Finnish student and wonder what sort of really excellent anti-depressants she was on. Google really is a wonderful thing.

I guess I should say something about the shave, sorry; I got carried away with the Google proposal thing. Great shave with a great razor. I love the shape and size of this razor. I need a way of working out where the heel is actually going to cut, though. I keep misjudging and trimming to close around the goatee. Believe it or not, I’m thinking about getting the frame gold plated, I wonder if that can be done?

Tonight's shave is brought to you by impatience.

For months and months I have been trying to get my hands on a Wade & Butcher For Barbers Use, and mine *finally* arrived today. So far, so patient.

But then I mentioned to mapleleafalumnus that the edge was in such decent shape that it was tempting to just hone it up and give it a test before getting into a full-on restore. Let's just say it didn't take much encouragement for me to cave and start soaking the hones.

    Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Razor: Wade & Butcher For Barbers Use 17/16
    Brush: Whippeddog silvertip
Soap: Body Shop Maca Root Cream
Scuttle: Robert Baker 002 in Lava Slate
    Shave: 3 passes, WTG/XTG/ATG
    Astringent: Thayer's Witch Hazel
    A/S: Men's Stock Spice Island

Result: It was worth the long wait, but I'm also glad I was impatient tonight! Thanks for the nudge, MLA.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

A fast shave with one of my Thiers Issard

In a few minutes I'll pick up our American friends and bring them to the train.

Yesterday we visited the St. George Church in Glauchau and got a lesson about the Silbermann-organ. We stood around the organ.
The Lord Mayor of Glauchau and the Consul of Public Affairs (Consulate General of the USA Leipzig) took part.

We met some members of the choir who will travel to Lynchburg next year.
