A very early day, here in the Nation's capitol. I have to travel three-hours each direction to conduct a series of witness interviews lasting around 6-8 hours today, which will make for a very long day! In order to wake myself up for the long drive, I decided it was time to break out my new ylang-ylang patchouli scented Jabonman - and I am extremely happy that I did! This stuff smells AMAZING! In the tin, I got a subtle floral and a strong woody/earthy patchouli. When the Manchurian badger hit the soap, though, the scent transformed. The yang-ylang rose emerged to give it a sweetness that combined masterfully. I almost didn't want to wipe away the lather it smelled so incredible!
But, work awaits, so shave I did. The Revisor worked a treat this morning. It effortlessly removed what little stubble I had after yesterday's shave, and I emerged from the den clean as a whistle! I topped it off with Sigilli Claudiae to keep this patchouli train rolling... Enjoy your days, gentlemen!

PS - Carl, I'm sorry to hear you're having such a down in the dumps day, but I really need to pass on the advice of one of my first NCOs: "Suck it up, Cupcake!!"He saw a lawyer killing a viper on a dunghill hard by his own stable; And the Devil smiled, for it put him in mind of Cain and his brother Abel.

Thanked: 485Well, yeah, you're right, I need to toughen up. I expect too much out of life...
So, tell me about the photo...why there? Why that pleasing line on the right? I love the light in this, I'd actually love it without the razor and stuff, your eyes are drawn towards the right hand corner, wondering what's there...
Just as one photographer to another, I wonder what it would look like without the shaving gear, and with the line on the right moved a smidgen to the right? Just a little bit, not much...
I really quite like that, sorry to go on about it...Last edited by carlmaloschneider; 10-02-2012 at 09:38 AM.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Why there? Because I happened to be shooting pictures near these steps and thought, that would make a cool SOTD picture because of the way the light was creating shadows... The line to the right is actually a wrought iron bar that is part of the stairway railing, which I was shooting through. As I was working with the image, I decided that this one had a kind of cool, eerie feeling that called out for black and white.
I'll have to go back and grab another shot of the spot without the shaving gear, because you're right it might make a cool still life taken with just a slightly different angle. Thank you for the suggestion! He saw a lawyer killing a viper on a dunghill hard by his own stable; And the Devil smiled, for it put him in mind of Cain and his brother Abel.

Thanked: 485No probs. You should try film, Medium Format, vintage, German, I think you'd like it; it's a whole new obsession!
I agree about the eerie feel. Depending on what you placed front left (a broken child's toy? A book?) you could get a great feel. I don't think a day goes by where I don't think, actually think, about the light I see as I drive to work. Problem is I don't follow through, but you have me inspired Bill, you have me inspired :-)Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

If inspiration pulls you out of your malaise, then I'm happy to have been of help!
I know what you mean about the light. Since I've started playing with cameras these past few months, I often find myself seeing things and thinking, "that light is really cool, I wonder how I'd capture that in a camera..."
As for the very helpful suggestion of yet another camera purchase, I think I'll pass for now. I think SWMBO might blow a gasket if I bought another camera! He saw a lawyer killing a viper on a dunghill hard by his own stable; And the Devil smiled, for it put him in mind of Cain and his brother Abel.

I just realized that it was recently my 2 year anniversary of hanging out here at SOTD.
So I decided to re-use that original photo and equipment.
At that time we were living at Ronald McDonald House in Sydney, and Jack was in the middle of his intensive Chemotherapy.
Being a part of the SOTD Brotherhood really helped me get through those times, so I just wanted to take the opportunity to say thanks.
Thanks for your support back then, and also for that sense of friendship that is always here.
Jack still has the teddy bears that some of you guys sent him back then.
Except for the one that Rene sent him, my youngest Son Mason has claimed that one.
He loves it and sleeps with it every night.
You guys are awesome.

Prep: Proraso pre-post creme
Brush: Thater 4125-2
Scuttle: G5
Soap: Truefitt & Hill 'Trafalgar'
Razor: Peter J Michels 'Square Deal'
Post: Cold water splash
Finish: Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort Balm
Result: What a great shave this was! A little refresh on the hones for this razor and 9 of it's brethren Sunday really did the trick. Stropped 50 on leather and this blade is just silky smooooth. With the heady scent of the Trafalgar cream filling the den, it was 3 passes to shaving nirvana. Off to work feeling like a king!
Have a Great Tuesday Gents!
