QCS Key Lime - Semogue 610 - Zebrawood Bowl - Rolls Razor - Floid Suave

Day 2 with the Rolls Razor and today I was actually able to finish do the entire shave with it. Yesterday the blade was way too dull, so I spent a few minutes sharpening it on the original Rolls Razor hone that comes in the case.

It wasn't the most comfortable shave I've ever had but it was a lot better than I expected. The bevel had a lot of scratches and had it been one of my straight razors I wouldn't have even tried to shave with it. But this was the hone provided for folk back in the day to sharpen the razor with so I figured I'd give it a go.

I'm going to try rehone on the original hone and then onto a barbers hone and see if it gets more comfortable. The joys of experimentation

    Soap: TOBS Sandlewood
Razor: 7/8 DC Custom in spanish point

Wonderful 2 pass shave. Made me late to work, but was worth every moment I got to relax in the shave den.

Morning came hard today, so I decided it would be good to start the day off well. A nice shower, shave and Loooongggg drive in to work and I'm ready for Wednesday!

    Have a great day friends!!!

    Hot shower prep
Razor: Blue Steel Special ( first shave)
    Soap: VDH
    Mug: coffee
    Brush: generic 24mm mixed badger
    Aftershock:none
    Splash: Macho ($ store special)

As usual, the day was to take a different turn than expected. An old razor cleaned and honed was to be tested and a really pretty one used to finish the shave. Well! The edge on the oldy was so good that I did Two and a touch-up and am at DGS or better. Like a rescued puppy, it loved me.
Cheap fru fru is not all bad! Try the various $ stores and get their stinkum stuff to try. Some is surprisingly good. However, it doesn't look good on SOTD?
The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

    Wed, Oct 17

Pre: Hot Shower, 20 Linen, 30 Leather
Razor: Hart 6/8" Square Tip w/ Rosewood handles
Brush: Thiers-Issard Super Badger w/ Black Horn Handle
    Scuttle: Dirty Bird Brush Scuttle
    Soap: MWF
    Post: Cold water and Alum
    Aftershave: T&H 1805

If you have kept track of my progress since I started posting in SOTD, I have been slowly starting to increase the number of cycles on stropping as I have been becoming more confident with it.

I am still only shaving the neck and letting the winter beard fill in. If anything I am becoming more and more confident with my neck each time. When comes time for me to chop back down to a goatee or van dyke I may have a pleasant shave. I am more steady with my neck and less nervous. Each curve is becoming more of a reflex and less of thought process on how to attack it. One minor nick at the base of my neck where blade met collar bone. Nothing bad, just didn't pay attention to where I was. Man do I love me some MWF. I am going to have to buy some back up pucks. This may just be my default after I get through all the flavor samples I have for my Saturday shave from SRD.

    Happy Shaving!

Great Shave! The combo of the Invicta and MWF was perfect. I could have left it at one pass with clean up and it would have been fine. I was having a good time so I lathered up again for a second pass.

*with PDP soap and Nature's Gate conditioner left in the beard while stropping

Razor: C.S. Bresnick Vesuvius Grim Reaper
    Soap: Williams Mug Shaving Soap
    Brush: Semogue 610
    A/S: Alum Block, Pinaud

Result: This razor is new to me, picked it up this last weekend. Gave it a quick polish and honed it to shave ready. This was the fastest bevel setting and honing to date so I was not how it would shave. Well, this edge was so smooth it did not feel like it was sharp, yet I got BBS with one multi-directional pass. the alum block confirmed this edge is smoooooth. The grim reaper dude means business. By that I mean while going against the grain on my chin (left to right), the reaper's image in the mirror caught my eye, and wham, or slice! Nice cut on the left side of my chin. That has never happened. Lesson learned. Don't check out the scales of a razor while in use.

Today I had my first real shave. . I have been using cartridge blades for about 8 years and got really sick of the high prices and was not satified with the result.

    Prep: Hot shower
Razor: Charlex #6 (Straight razor) & Weishi DE razor.
    Soap: Col conk Lime
    Brush: Dutch Barber's boar hair.
    Mug: Storage mug
Aftershave: Cold water followed with alum block.

    Here is the story.
It was my first time ever making lather and it wasn't that easy as I thought it would be. . I think the lather wasn't thick enough so next time I'll have to pay attention to that to get it thicker. I started with the straight razor on my right side but didn't get that good of a shave. Then I switched to the DE razor and started playing with the angles of the blade and got a great shave. Did 2 passes WTG and XTG. Took the straight again and when I found a good angle got a really close shave. Face feels really smooth now. And the best part is that I didn't got a nick while shaving.
