Wow, nice shave today! Really great actually. One of the best I have ever had. I am still working out some kinks with my technique though. Anyway, I am glad I have stuck it out and get to really enjoy using a straight. The journey has had some ups and downs but I almost to the point I can say, "I arrived". Of course, when I get there I might want to go in other directions. Well, I really need to focus on my honing chops-still subpar.

Thanked: 485Friday
What a day! I’m not sure why I choose to work in a mad house; maybe I’ve got self harm issues…I’m SO glad it’s Friday!
Interesting shave with the De Pews this morning. As I’d shaved off the moustache, soul patch and goatee for Movember yesterday (and am now growing it all back again) I needed to re-define the edges. Normally, when I cut in around the edges of the goatee, I use both sight and feel. That is, I stop when I feel resistance of the beard. With one day of arguably girly growth there was not a lot to feel, so I had to judge by sight as much as I could. When I shave the left side of my face I can’t actually see what I’m doing as I hit the goatee area; as my left hand holding the razor gets in the way. I’ll be glad when it all grows back again. I look like an absolute dickhead with no facial hair. I have no top lip; and I look a little evil and sardonic. The cream was O Melhor. And the scent? Can you guess? Bay Rum. I’m a bit of a Bay Rum addict lately; I love the clovey spicy scent.

You gotta love surviving another work week! I'm off to our D.C. office and court in the District today. I like to really take out some of my top shelf kit on court days, because it just seems to start me off in the right frame of mind. So, today I reached for the Toyo Special. I paired it with some Jabonman for suds, and my Manchurian Rover to do the whipping duties. The lather was superb and the razor was precisely the velvet squeegee I've come to expect from this fine piece of Japanese steel. In two plus passes I was BBS, and ready to apply the Lucido. After all that, my face felt ten years younger! After applying a bit of D'Orsay Arome 3, I tied my wool bow tie, and I'm ready to face the judge!
Have a great day, gentlemen, and thank you all for sharing your shaves with me this week!

Thanked: 146The edge was good when I started, but deteriorated quickly after the second pass. I have had this happen before, it seems like there is old steel on the bevel that has some oxidation that makes the edge weak, after you set a good bevel by getting to some new steel it usually alleviates these issues. I'll reset this when I have more time, but thanks for the comment Carl.

BBS in 2 passes but went for the third just because of yesterdays crummy shave...(Besides, I think I am addicted to the Casablanca scent of the shave soap!)
