Carl, that is a wonderful story. While I will not profess to be nearly as eloquent as you, nor to know the parties as well, I do not see how Aimee could possibly find the first version to be anything but a compliment. After all, you did not tell your sons to choose a pebble unilaterally, you told them the pebble must speak to them. In other words, it was choosing them as much as they were choosing it. And the homily of dedication and loyalty is very much the story of marriage. There will be times of temptation. There will be frustrations with the one we find to share our lives with, but we can never forget that we did not marry that person because it was our own choice. We married that person because our lives spoke to one another and because apart we are merely pebbles on a beach, but when united, we are so much more. We are a laughter, we are accomplishment, we are memories, and we carry unlimited potential.

Your sons are very lucky young men, and Aimee is incredibly fortunate to be joining your family!

A beautifully told story Carl! The poetry of past moments.
If I were your son, I would be proud of my father.

Pre : Hot water, Old Spice facial wash, Proraso pre-post cream
Soap : Palmolive green tube cream
    Brush : Turkish "No.6"
Razor : Gillette Superspeed flare tip
    Blade : Feather
Post : Proraso pre-post cream, cold water, Nivea post shave balm

    Finish : BBS

    Comments :
I keep forgetting just how thick the Palmolive cream can lather up. And, partly due to snobbery on my behalf, I overlook it due to its lack of cost... and it's something I've got to stop doing. Not all the best creams and soaps cost £30+

Carl, beautiful story and i hope you never lose that sensitive side to you as it is a great reflection for your sons to see what a true gentleman is really like; a myriad of things and there is nothing shameful with that! Keep expressing that love, my friend!!

“So now I get to decide what task he shall do” I say.

What would YOU ask your son or daughter to do if you could?” I ask.

    The ‘audience’ are thinking now.

"What sort of things would you want to pass on if this ‘punishment’ for not having a pebble on one’s person was more positive than punitive?"

“To love and to be loved” I say.

    “Surely there is nothing else?”
That all of us could have had such a wedding and parent!
    Thank you Carl!

I hate posting without a photo, because I love all the eye candy of the SOTD threads, but today was such a weird shave.

    AOS Silvertip
    Trumper's Limes
    Wostenholm IXL frameback
    Merkur HD
    Alum
    Lavanda

So I just had to see what it was like to shave with a straight without stropping. I was a little behind schedule, and after a hot shower I stood looking at a 2 1/2 day growth, wishing I had stropped up one of my razors the night before. But I thought: that Wosty was sharper than Groucho's wit the last time I used it. Surely... I went and grabbed it. Lathered up really nice with a soaking wet brush, and proceeded with one pass, rinse, lather, second pass. No cuts, no burn, but the razor was hesitant, one could say almost shy. No sense in tempting fate with another pass. I pulled out the trusty DE with a nearly brand new blade and whipped across my face ATG. Nick city. The alum soothed, and the results feel just fine. Funny thing, the Lavanda hit my nose all wrong. I must have outgrown it.

    Have a great day, all.

    -Michael
