Today's shave is bitter/sweet for me since it is my first shave after the passing of my father and it is Father's Day. It has been 30 days since I used a Str8 and I was looking forward to today's shave.
Hot Shower
Dirty Bird Scuttle
Warm shave oil
Castle Forbes Lavender Shave Cream
Silver tip badger in Maccasser Ebony, pre-ban ivory by Bill (Pixelfixed)
Home made strop by me.
Joseph Rodgers & Sons, 6/8 wedge, Barber's notch in Ivory
Hot towels
Razorock Aluminum
Pinaud Lilac Vegetal AS
Vaseline for men
After 30 days of crappy shaves I thoroughly enjoyed today's shave. The blade was recently honed by Nelson and provided a really smooth edge. I did three passes and then really enjoyed the hot towels which I let linger on my skin. SWMBO let me do the BBT which I passed with flying colors. I should mention that I had a little trouble getting a good lather with the Castle Forbes. I could not understand until I realized that the badger was so thick, it needed more water. I was amazed at the amount of water this knot held onto. Once I added the right amount of water, the CF and brush combined for a really incredible amount of thick lather.
Happy Father's Day, I hope everyone enjoys their day.

A little bit if a different Father's Day shave.
While on a family vacation in Vegas, my father was good enough to give me a lift to meet Max and tour his workshop. When we got there, my normally stoic father was like a kid in a candy store, I could not get a word in edgewise. It was great experience, and I joked to Max that it would be ironic if I ended up teaching my father how to shave...
And so, a few months later, as we were hiking through the wilderness, he asked me to set him up with some gear. My original intent was to hone up his Grandfather's razor for him, but I discovered a crack in it, so it remains as a display piece. I ended up touching up one of my first razors, and made a brush for him using a 22mm TGN Super Silvertip, a cocobolo cap, and a piece of antler from one of his hunts.

Happy Father's Day to you all. I have had an incredible and memorable day with my wife and children, and an excellent shave as well with a Hart 7/8, finished with Master Bay Rum. It's 6:18 pm now, and am putting some steaks on the grill, so gotta go. Have a great week!

Father's Day frowzy eclectic shave
A day of relaxed, eclectic sampling and mixing:
- The Bismarck Registered
- BestShave #6 super-el-cheapo but surprisingly good for the money horsehair (I'm testing how it performs with increasingly hard soaps, candidate for my super-cost effective wet shaving gift starter-kit project)
- Proraso Green Pre-Shave (mentholated cherry...)
- Stirling Black Cherry soap (going through a nine piece sampler)
- Dominica Bay Rum aftershave
- Spearmint lemon tea
