To me the real variation with safety razors came down to the blade you put in them. Sure there were some differences but it was always about the blade, the edge in question that mattered most. My Edwin Jagger ended up as the only one I used.

Have to agree with OCD, the Edwin Jagger DE89 was my first DE. Good solid build. ended up with two but have since given both away. Still collect them, but having too much fun with the straights to even try them, I always intend to. Two ups I will give one away to get friends and family started.

I prefer the single edge. The Ever Ready 1912 does a pretty nice job for me.

I have two (2) - I just cannot decide between the two.

They are the British Ever-Ready 1912 and the GEM Micromatic Clog-Pruf.

For me, when paired with the GEM PTFE coated stainless blades, they give me a superb shave

For conventional DE safety razors, my favourite is the Gillette open-comb two-piece that came in the (IIRC) 66/77 sets.

This is a tough one. I love my vintage gillettes to death (red tip, fat handle tech, 40's SS, LC new)...but it's hard to beat the efficiency and results from my R41 head and classic Weber handle.

I'm not sure I can pick one, but these three are my favorites: Gem 1912, Schick Injector or a Gillette Aristocrat

Mine is a 1956 Gillette Rocket HD, which my father bought when he married my mother. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us, but I enjoy using the razor maybe once a month or so. I actually learned to shave with this razor 40+ years ago, before I "progressed" to a cartridge of my own.

Funny how that cartridge razor isn't around still. :-)
