Default No more straights! Going all feather!

So I got my Kai Excelia in the mail today and used it tonight with a Kai mild blade. All I can say is that it was the smoothest shave I have ever gotten from a disposable blade! I rarely chase BBS, but today I did an ATG 3rd pass with no effort or irritation at all. I also have a pack of Feather Pro blades that I will test in a few days. I finally get it, these high-end shavettes are worth every penny!

Curious to see which blade you like better, the KAI or the Feather? I know I have my favorite, but I would hold my comments as not to influence your decision.

+1 - But this is also very YMMV so there is no right or wrong answer.
I have also found that with some practice blades and blade/razor combos that did not work in the beginning turned out great 50 shaves down the road.

Let us know how it goes.

Agreed that shavettes give a fabulous shave. These days Thursday is shavette day in my rotation but if I stick with DE razors or shavette's for too long I find myself missing the ritual of a traditional straight razor shave. I'm with SirStropalot on this one. If my view of shaving was what it once was (i.e. a necessary evil to remove whiskers) I'd probably just own a shavette or perhaps a Merkur Slant and call it good. Like many others here however, shaving has become much more than a necessary evil or even a hobby. It's a damn lifestlye!

Ok, so 4 days into the Kai Excelia, I've come to a couple conclusions and will share my thoughts on the Feather/Feather clone "high end" shavette experience thus far....

First, if the Feather SS/DX are anything like the Kai, the craftsmanship and fit and finish scream quality. Nice modern design and a surprisingly ergonomic grip from the slightly odd shape of the Kai.

I don't own any other Kamisori style razors, so the hand movements and grips were slightly different, but in certain areas the fixed handle was actually easier to manipulate than one with folding scales.

As for the shave, the question was which was best between the Kai Titan Mild blades and the Feather Professional blades. The Titan blade was very smooth and comfortable after 3 shaves and showed no signs of dullness, and I figured that with such a close and smooth shave the feather's couldn't be THAT far ahead of them, so I decided to switch to the Feather for day 4. I was 2/3rds the way through the shave and thinking how great the feather was and how sharp it was, and how it actually was slightly better when I felt the familiar tug of a blade slicing through skin... I managed to take a chunk out of an old childhood scar on my chin!

Accidents happen and that's fine, it's been a while since my last bloodletting...think I still prefer the feathers anyway since that's what I use in my DE's and I'm used to the sharpness, but I will also say that the pack of Kai's will not go to waste. Both blades and the feather clone system in general are miles ahead of any other disposable blade of any kind that I have used. Apologies for the the longwindedness, happy shaving!

    Gents:

I have to write that I feel the same as the person who begun with this post. I been a stra8t razor shaver for years (and just for fun) I purchased one non-folding feather called face knife. I just got impress of how nice the shave was. As the first writer explains you just can't go wrong with this system. I start using them once in a while then after a month I started using it every Monday morning based on the quality of shave provided. right now in some weeks I used in a full way. Very easy to used and maintained. I reco them, the only thing I can say against them is that in my case I also wear beard and in the edges (clean cut edges) its still better use straight's.

    thanks:
    Ken

My favorite thing about the Feather is when I'm in a hurry. I can do a quick 5-10 minute shave with now stropping and have about BBS before walking out the door.

Finally got around to ordering mine tonight.

I look forward to giving it a shot .

I'll let you know what I think... Right now I feel like I have just cheated on my straight collection and told my DEs they aren't cutting it lol. Almost as though they have feelings lol.
