I have razors in many places. My working selection of about 40 is in the bathroom. I have simple window air-conditioning and have not had a rusted or cell rotted razor so far. All of the razors do have free air movement around them and either hang by their tails from magnets or are semi upright in shave stands. Strops seem to like my shave den. They hang from hooks on the back of the door.
Every situation is different and your other experience of tools could be your guide. Razor blades now are mostly plastic coated and they won't tell you much. Perhaps, start out with the blades elsewhere and put a piece of clean and non-oily high carbon steel in the shave den for a couple weeks to find out. An old carbon kitchen knife sanded well and cleaned could be such a thing.
YMMV!

My razors and good strops are not in the bath. The wife likes "steamy hot" showers.

I keep my 25 or so razors that I have in a daily rotation ( I use a different one every day) in the bathroom on top of a cabinet about 7 feet off the floor. They sit in the open with plenty of air circulation around them. I have had no rust issues what so ever. I used to oil them after each use, but found it unnecessary. We do have an exhaust fan in the bathroom that we leave on while in the shower. My wife likes really hot steamy showers too. We also have central air conditioning. Relative humidity is kept 50% or less year round. I have two plastic storage boxes filled with razors that I keep in our walk in closet. One with shave ready and the other with ones that need attention of some type. No rust issues with any of these in plastic storage boxes either. I keep strop I'm using hanging from hook next to sink. Extra strops hanging in closet. No problems with any strops.

Thanked: 56Thanks for all the feedback! I think I will keep the razor out of the bathroom for the time being, and let the one I have coming for honing practice sit in the bathroom to see what happens. No loss if it gets rusty, as I expect while practicing I'll muck it up anyway (to be fixed as I gain experience).

My strops hang in the bathroom, but razors live in a Tupperware box with silica gel sachets and each sleeved in a sock made from a silicon treated gun sock. I don't oil the razors, just make sure they're dried well before being put away. I'm keeping my eyes open for a nice wooden box to replace the plastic one.

At home my razors and strops live in my wardrobe, the razors in wire stands and the strops hanging on the inside of the door.
at work my razor lives in a wire stand on a shelf and my strop hangs on a hook in the wall.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

In the bathroom on a rack or in a segmented pouch hanging underneath. Live alone with a half Siamese cat that hates closed doors so the bathroom door is always open and I prefer tepid temp showers, especially in the hot Summer. The razors are rinsed, washed with a touch of hand soap, dried and dipped in a mix of alcohol and mineral oil. Never a rust problem. Strops hang off a towel rack.
