I've only been straight razor shaving for about 3 months but it's about 50/50 right now. It depends on what time I wake up in the morning. I have 8 straights and 3 DE but i use the Edwin Jagger DE89 more then anything else

I have been SR shaving for 6 months almost daily. However, I clean up with a DE. If I never did backup with a DE, I might be more SR proficient by now. On the other hand, I may have dropped the SR as being too difficult to achieve a DFS. I find using the DE easy for cleanup after the SR has done most of the work. The DE takes most of the anxiety away from using the SR and needing a DFS before work. I have never used cartriges, but used to use single blade disposibles as they cost about the same as drug store DE blades. I learned to shave with a Slim so the DE is no mystery but and old friend.

Twenty two replies so far. Thanks guys!
But my curiosity is infinite. More are welcome.
Obviously only a few solely use straights. I am not quite sure if this is surprising or not.

Coarse stubble with sensitive skin, so croc 3, straight, DE takes same time to shave as far as blade/face time. If I hurry w/ any then unholy razorburn ensues. Added more time just lathering so no biggie. DE and straights only go near me period. DE when I get a wild hair, straights for majority, and feather ss for travel lads.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Straights only for ~4 years. One exception though; I had my bag stolen in Costa Rica a couple years ago. I found a DE at a small store and used that until I got home

Thanked: 8This is a similar thread to the one I started: "Straight & DE." I was looking for the same info and found it. Not many of us just use a straight. I have been shaving exclusively with a straight for 3 months but after seeing this info, I ordered a DE.

Thanked: 18I have been shaving with straights for about 9 months, I also use DE's in a regular basis, but returning to multi cartridge-disposable razors, NEVER!!! they are not welcome at my house!
