Thanked: 22I've been doing this for some time now [on and off for maybe 20 years or so] and I've become so comfortable doing it that I'm now doing all my shaving in my "own" bathroom. You see, I used to carry my shaving supplies to the childrens' bathroom, as the lighting was better. So, while I'm not yet ready to [SR] shave in the shower w/o a mirror, I'm fairly confident in my ability to shave quickly and in a fine manner and not nick or cut myself.

Thanked: 0Been using a straight exclusively since August 2010. I was fortunate in that, with a bit of planning, my schedule allowed for a little extra time early on while I was getting my technique together. Nowadays it doesn't take as long as it used to - like anything else, the more you do it the better you get at it - and I've got the routine down well enough that I can get an acceptable result within a reasonable time.
Even though I use a straight every day, I still enjoy pulling out all the stops every now and then - perhaps on a Saturday morning? - to give myself a full-bore "Hollywood" shave! One of life's small luxuries.

Thanked: 270Almost. I probably used a DE razor twice this month and once the previous two months. There were times when I had to use a DE razor because I was spending 30-45 minutes straight shaving during the learning process. Now with 15 minute shaves, there are fewer occasions when I don't have time to straight shave.
I have not gone back to the multiblades and cartridges. Honestly, I've toyed with the idea of trying one with all the shaving knowledge I've gained by going to the traditional equipment, but never quite gotten around to doing it. I'll pass by the shaving section of a store and say, "No, I really don't want to do this." Shaving was such a miserable experience with the multiblades.

Thanked: 37I've been with straights since march 2011 but I have a Merkur DE for when there is a big hurry. For medium to small hurries, I do a good one pass and touch-up with the straight.
Arise, awake, and learn by approaching the exalted ones,
for that path is sharp as a razor’s edge, impassable,
and hard to go by, say the wise. Katha Upanishad – 1.3.14

Thanked: 15I've only used a SR on my face & throat for a year now.I have also used everything I've learned here about wet shaving to improve what I do below the belt with a Mach III.

Thanked: 5From August 2012 I work out my STR8 skill
Only 1 time I miss it when I was in the long trip (near 5 000 miles) I've used disposable. Once. No more.
Now I have 3 STR8 in rotation - 1 Sheffield 7/8" and 2 Solingens for USA 6/8". That's gooooooood for me and my whiskers

Not quite. It's good for you and really bad for your whiskers.
