I had 3 old ones that needed an overhaul as well but the cost was prohibitive so I sold them as an unworking lot on eBay months ago. Plus they were Quartz movements and I wanted Automatic or self winding. I found watchuseek.com and cruised their BST threads. Great forum about watches. you can purchase new Seiko Automatics under $100 to start or pick up a pre-loved one(s) as I have. The SKX007 basic Dive watch is a good start and it can be found for under $150. Built like a tank and often "modded" by enthusiasts.

I shaved with a big ole Joseph Elliot wedge this morning. It shaved like a champ. It is a little picky about how it is stropped. Once you hit the jackpot on how to strop that thing you'll enjoy it thoroughly. And, it was honed on a coticule also.

Received my strop today. It appears to be a nice strop. It will take a little getting used to but seems to be doing what I need.Name: 1416674876635710096838.jpg
