I thought so, however I was worried about how the horn would react. So far so good!

    My wallet is complaining now.
I hope you ordered some stone holders to accompany the DMT and the Nortons as they will make your life much easier. I also hope that you've watched this video and are ready for a workout For without a proper lapping those Norton hones are pretty much useless as they are far too rough for what we use them for. Without lapping they might be fine for woodworking tools and even knives but not for straight razors.

I covered them with Neatsfoot Oil then put them in my vacuum chamber and started a slow evacuation, the small air bubbles soon started to come out of the horn.

I left the razor under the slight vacuum for about 15 minutes then when ahead and pulled the full vacuum and left it for an hour. At the end of the 60 minutes the bubbles were still coming out but greatly diminished. I figured that I'd put as much oil in them as they would take so I opened the valves and was pleased with what I found.

After drying the excess oil off I let the razor hang for about a half an hour then re-wiped everything, then I used Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish with some well crumpled newspaper on the blade then used some 000 synthetic steel wool on the scales then wiped all down and ran the scales on some CrOx.

I did have to tighten the pivot pin and it's still close to self centering. I'll leave it till another day to play with everything else and will report back.

Thanks my friend, it did come out nice. I went ahead and gave the blade a quick pass on the CrOx on my buffer and man did it come out even nicer. The original finishing grinding lines are just outstanding/hell the old bevel just popped out and shone like crazy. (I've tried to take pics but can't get what I want to share).

This is probably the easiest razor I've ever set a bevel on and in hindsight I should have just started on the 4K with slurry as I'm sure it still would have gone well.

The only thing that I'd do different is that I used two layers of the 3M 700 tape and could have easily gone with only one as the bevel is so small it's ridiculous as it' about a 32nd of an inch and maybe a 1/16" at the most. The bevel is nice and straight with only that 1/16" at the toe from my swooping stroke to keep the smile.

I stropped it up and gave it a shave last night and boy howdy was it a nice shave. This razor is a keeper

To say that I'm pleased with the razor would be an understatement.

    Looks sweet ,Roy.
I do like the even look of the patina in that one.
And you answered my question on how a vac, would work on horn. I saw Lynn, and Nelson, with that same pin masher at the meet. Niiiice!!!

Gasman, was an Olympic runner, so running laps on a Norton should be no problem

    Newbie questions:

    1) Neatsfoot Oil soaking => The scales only or the whole thing? You didn't unpin it, right?
    2) CrOx is a buffer?
