I've been wanting to try something and I figured these old scales would be as good as any to experiment with. So--------

I covered them with Neatsfoot Oil then put them in my vacuum chamber and started a slow evacuation, the small air bubbles soon started to come out of the horn.

I left the razor under the slight vacuum for about 15 minutes then when ahead and pulled the full vacuum and left it for an hour. At the end of the 60 minutes the bubbles were still coming out but greatly diminished. I figured that I'd put as much oil in them as they would take so I opened the valves and was pleased with what I found.

After drying the excess oil off I let the razor hang for about a half an hour then re-wiped everything, then I used Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish with some well crumpled newspaper on the blade then used some 000 synthetic steel wool on the scales then wiped all down and ran the scales on some CrOx.

I did have to tighten the pivot pin and it's still close to self centering. I'll leave it till another day to play with everything else and will report back.

If you read, all I did was soak the scales in Neatsfoot Oil (an experimental soak/but a traditional soak over night would have done fine) then just some Metal Polish on some well crumpled newspaper for the blade (the news paper has a minor abrasive in it) and a little bit of a polish on the scales and it's close to looking like it did so--- many years ago!

There are some here who would have used buffers or even worse the Dreaded Dremels and OVER POLISHED that blade to a state that it NEVER EVER HAD OR COULD HAVE HAD WHEN IT CAME OUT OF THE FACTORY!

I like to try to keep things simple. I'm not a Restoration Expert (I just 'clean razors up'), and I'm just an old redneck country boy who tries to take pride in his work and help other to learn to do the same.

@Cuda yes sir I did read and am learning a lot from all of you here. Going to be trying a restoration on a razor I got and a clean up like you did here. Thanks and happy New Year from another redneck

Yep, that ball peen does look goog almost as good as the razor its holding up. GreT KOB cuda
