You will see when you get it that there is a handle built inside too for honing & stropping & when you go to hone, you have to be careful not to slam the blade into the hone but ya gotta do it really hard because when I was fooling around with mine I slammed it accidentally but it didn't crack the hone. I lubed the guard that is on the blade that will help it from slamming it into the hone. You'll see what I'm talking about. I did see one on eBay with a cracked hone. I have a spare blade with mine & it is a '35 & the other one is a '48. There is some guy from the UK trying to sell two Rolls from '27 for more than they normally go for. By the way, the handle to shave with is in the middle & ya unscrew it, slide it on the flat side of the blade & screw it tight. To unlock the blade from the hone or strop, flip the blade up twist & pull.
I don't know much about them but I have seen them here and there once in a while. When you made mention of the one in this auction I started looking at ones in other auctions to try and see what all the fuss was about. They seem to be an interesting razor to play around with and I can't wait to see it when it gets here. I have seen the built in hone and that intrigued me but not to the point of actually buying one. My original interest was in the older straights of around the late 1700's, there is one in the lot that I believe is tortoise. I will probably be putting some of them back up for auction including the FBU.

That's cool. You'll make some money I'm sure. I mainly collect straights so I couldn't believe I bought the damn thing but after looking at it & seeing it had a built in hone on one side & a strop on the other just was so interesting to me. A friend of mine who is into straights & I went to antique shops one Sunday afternoon on our scooters (mine being a Harley) & we didn't see any straights worth talking about but I saw the Rolls & started talking to the guy & he went down on his price of course after he saw that it was interesting to me so I bought the darn thing. It came complete with the original instructions & all. I'm normally not into this type razor. I even honed it & stropped it once & shaved with it once but I prefer my straights. Right now I'm waiting to get on disability, but I'm also waiting for a Michael Waterhouse 15/16's razor which I'm really interested in & can't wait to get it but I'll be patient until it gets here. I'll probably get another one once I get my disability. I can't wait to see some of those razors you bought. You'll make some money for sure. That FBU will be able to be saved to whoever wants to do it. I have enough of them, about 9 to be exact. I have some I can rescale & polish up the blades & make some money on them. I hope ya do some good on that lot you bought!

I have 2 Parker DE razors (TTO and an Open Comb) and another sampler pack of DE blades. So far, the Gillette 7'Oclock Super Sharp and KAI blades have been the best, GSB, Feather, Derby have been the worst on my skin. I am up to 12 SR's currently, but have been using the DE exclusively for a month or so to master lathering, angles, pressure and how my skin grown. I picked up a Norton 4K/8K stone to hone my other SR's since I was using Japanese Naturals after the 1K stone and hadn't really gotten an edge I liked yet.

Ordered a Ralf Aust - Solingen 5/8" from SRD.

Super exited already, can't wait for the straight to arrive.

I've almost ordered a RA a couple of times. They are great looking razors. It's just hard for me to justify the expense of a new razor when there are so many great vintage ones out there for so much less. Maybe someday. In the meantime, these should be in the mail next week. F. W. E. Leader and a Western Bros. With boxes. More pics when they arrive.

You are simply going to love that razor. I just finished shaving with one of mine (6/8 Kind of hard to find "American Point"-I was told only 50 were made) and (as usual) find myself wondering just how Herr Aust can make such a nice product for the totally reasonable price these are going for.

I have a NOS vintage Japanese Gold Rex full hollow 13/16 for Barbers use coming in from Japan, I foolishly traded the very same razor a few years back so I jumped at the chance of buying another.
