Got a few things in the mail today. I'll break it up and explain as you might say why...
I bought some of that Spice After Shave at the dollar stor and think its really nice and the wife loves the scent. She hate the Old Spice you buy now days so for a buck, I just cant go wrong. I wanted something to put the after shave into and get it out of the plastic bottle. Found these for 8 bucks. According to the labels they are 1980. within a year or two of when I really started shaving in high school besides wiping peach fuzz off. Ha
I'll get them cleaned up and fill the bottle with the Spice. And I figure the cup will work fine for soaking my brush or if I get a puck of soap in the future I might give that a try. It's just Sharpening, right?

Next, I was searching strops on the Bay and seen these. An old paddle strop with 3 razors. The older razor caught my eye and I thought it might be worth having in the collection.
Marsh Brothers & Co. Ponds works. Sheffield. V.R. under a crown.
The wood scales look like they might be original but its hard to say. The tail is odd. Straight out and wide??? After I got the razor in my hands I can tell the tip has been worked on as you can see what is left of a barbers notch. Not much left but the grinding up by the spine looks decent. It has some hone ware and a bit of hard red rust in a couple spots.
I haven't gotten to looking up any info on this razor yet but hope I can find something. The tail just struck me oddly and thought why not so I put in his opening bid, 8.49. A couple days later I get notice that I won.Last edited by Gasman; 08-17-2017 at 08:54 PM.

One of the other razors is broken badly. Beyond repair plus cracked and the scales have been chopped down as you can see the blade wont even come close to fitting inside but I thought the Bolsters could be salvaged. And the other razor is so small (5/16) and the scales have nicks and someone etched there name in it so not too sure what to do with it.
Now the strop, I dont know anything about. It looks pretty rough and figure I'll just put it on a shaelf. Maybe someday mess with it but I need to figure out how these things work. One side is rounded and one flat. I just dont know enough I guess.
The workable surface is 1 1/4 wide and 10" long. Leather needs replaced and the adjustable parts (If these are adjustable) is gummed up and full of crud.
So there you go. A total on 16.49 for a hand full of stuff that might be worth something. If nothing else I picked up a couple more projects for the garage.
If you have any info on any of this stuff I'm all ears. Thanks for putting up with my junk. It's just Sharpening, right?

Neat old Marsh Bros Jerry. Should clean up well, are they wood scales or horn?

Ive come up with between 1850 and 1890 or the Marsh brothers. Thats about it so far. Still an oldie. The tail still strikes me odd. Nothing on it yet.
Wood scales on the Marsh. Looks like a lead wedge. And pins are brass with a stepped washer or a thin washer under a rounded washer.Last edited by Gasman; 08-17-2017 at 09:13 PM.

Phrank, it also means your going to have 3 razors that will be restored by the best there is. Everything Karl does seems to be jaw dropping nice. I own one by him myself. I'm jealous!

Just arrived in the mail today! A Genco.
Should clean up quite nicely. Some 2k sand paper, mostly for the bit of red rust around the stabilizer, and then it's off to the hones!
Can anyone give me a date-range based on the tang stamp? I don't remember where I put that reference material...Decades away from full-beard growing abilities.

I have a Genco 'Fluid Steel' with a very similiar tang that i put between 1916 and 1935. I'm not an authority on the subject in any way but im curious to see how my estimation holds up if others chime in.
