Already have a little bit with very primitive equipment. Using a charcoal starter chimney and stoked with an air mattress inflator and using a bench vice for an anvil can work but it's much harder to do.

Had this Russian foal leather, French made, paddle strop in my watchlist for ages. Always thought it was a bit overpriced for what it is. Submitted a low-ball offer and was surprised when it was immediately accepted. No clue on the vintage, but I'd guess no later than the mid 1950's.

Smallish 8” dia Bowl but manual blower and a basic kit to start my coal fired experiments later this summer.
$200 CDN, including delivery couldn’t be passed up. I will be building a larger coal and work surface to sit atop this bowl, but for the size and volume of blades I’ll be making, this will do.
Plus it’ll make a kick ass searing station for the BBQ pit when not making metal..
    Hehe.

Yeah I was thinking about making some tongs but that was decidedly more difficult without tongs...

Nice manual crank blown forge. My dad had a nice one on a stand when I was a kid. It was about 18” I think plus he had the anvil with stand, ladles, tongs, hammers, the whole bit. We used to make things with it but he sold it all after I moved out. I would love to have that set up now.

Good to see more people getting into blacksmithing. Paul you will find the better equipped you are the easier it makes things, looks like you are off to a good start. I've learned most of my technique from you tube. Black Bear forge is a good one.

Mike that's a nice little forge to start with. Glen from GS tongs did a couple of videos (youtube again) with one like it. Looking forward to seeing what you guys make!

(Kens Custom Iron has some good tong kits that are quality too.)
