Thanked: 335Since I'm such a fine egalitarian and fine guy in general, I've started adding reputation to everyones' posts. I'm so egalitarian that I now think that the ladies only room is a wonderful place: much and greatly needed to keep the privates private. Perhaps the mods can add to the reputation there on my behalf. I'd be ever so grateful.

If a member has more or less green thingies usually a reader can see if what he is saying is bona fide or BS. In my experience if someone is giving incorrect information on the forum another member will follow and post with the correct information. Now between the Wiki tutorials and the videos and other forum resources a new guy who does his homework will know a little bit in short order.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

None of the mods got any help in getting their rep. For example, the reason glen has 5 boxes is all the thanks and rep he got for his work in the restoration forum. I think Glen is the most thanked forum member.
OS got his rep the same way.
The only ones to get a head start were the super mods and admins. we all got a 2 or 3 block head start (I got 2 extra I think). This is not because we wanted to be king. The meter goes to 10 blocks.
The reason was that super mods and admins do a load of work behind the scenes that noone ever sees.
It was felt that admin personel should have some reputation so that they would be visible as reputable members. Especially since some of us will very rarely do something that earns them thanks, and thus would always be stuck at 1 or 2 blocks, like David.
But it is true that this was perhaps not the ideal way to start this.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Perhaps the mods should have blue squares instead of green? As it is, the mods are still at risk of being bumped up or down by member responses to moderator actions rather than by thanked posts. And the ladies should get pink squares! And I should get a gold square representing the quality rather than the quantity of my reputation

Thanked: 335hogla,
Here, here, and a coupla plusses. I agree with the pink spots concept. As the little darlings have their own room, so should they have their own "reputation" identification.

Well this is what I see as the problem with the whole system really. The original concept was a +1 meter to give WEIGHT to peoples' replies and therefore giving reputation for good replies. i.e. if one question receives two answers (one from a member who knows more than any other when it comes to razors and one from someone who doesn't know much at all but always answers questions that he shouldn't) then it will be obvious whose answer to put more trust in based on the +1's for that individual post as well as his reputation.
Now if someone has 4 green squares because he is a mod or admin- that doesn't mean I should automatically trust his answers to razor related questions based on his reputation. That's how I see this thing as majorly flawed. Especially since little of this 'green squares' info was publicly disclosed to begin with.
