Thanked: 124That was payback. She hit him in the back of the head with a baking pan for no reason at all while he was eating breakfast, and started giggling like it was a really funny joke. Granted, the guy was reading a cereal box like it was some fascinating novel, with I kind of find annoying myself, but still...

Thanked: 131To be honest I'm not at all surprised the green dits failed. They were born after an idea I suggested was misunderstood and therefore implemented in a way which didn't do the job suggested. As a result they were met with mixed reaction and members leaving over the idea.
Fastforward to present date. A replacment system is being put in. There is a mixed reaction. Some are saying they will leave over the issue. Some are misunderstanding the purpose of a mentor system.
Are you REALLY surprised?
The few differences I can see are that to my knowledge (correct me if i'm wrong) they were not discussed amongst members initially. They were simply implemented. Another difference is that mentors are one broad group. There is no continuum as there was with the dits.
The idea that this isn't making a class system is farcical. Previously we had degrees of green dits and now you are either a mentor or you aren't. Both systems are flawed. I wish I had never suggested the damn dits in the first place!

About members leaving...
When I came to SRP, there were only 1500 ish members. I could name several people who left since then, because they did not agree with changes that were made to give the community and SRP itself to grow.
One of those changes for example was the switch from BST to classifieds. People left because SRP lost part of it's cosiness and personal atmoshpere.
As our membership count grows, SRP has to adapt with it. With the >10K user base that we now have, BST would have become completely unusable.
As our membership count keeps growing, we'll have to adapt. When we hit 20 or 40K users, we'll run into different problems again, which we'll solve then, and no doubt some people will disagree and leave. Such is life.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
