It's a thought. Thanks for the suggestion. Then again, by now I am sure they have received enough complaints about the soap and done nothing about it. Still, a good thought.

One of the first soaps I ever tried was a puck of Trumper's Sandalwood. I could swear that the first few times that I used it that it was phenomenal; very dense slick lather. At the time, I was dead set on finishing the puck of DR Harris on the counter before starting to use the Trumpers again (I'm no longer a one puck at a time guy, many in the rotation now). Anyway, by the time the DR Harris was gone, the Trumpers was about 4 months old. It sat in the wooden bowl in a cabinet the entire time. My next try with it generated a very foamy, airy lather that refused to get thick. It would start to deflate on my face before I could get the razor to my skin. Over and over and over this continued. I spent many minutes trying to build a good lather, thinking there was something I was doing wrong. Then I found a thread on this site that discussed similar issues. Before I finally tossed it, I did try grating it into a mug and using a hand lathering technique and slowly adding water while building produced what visually seamed to be a very good lather. It no longer deflated quickly. However, performance was mediocre at best and the work to get to that point was not worth the results so I ended up tossing it. Never thought of using it for bath soap. Up until now I assumed that it was a puck that I let go bad on the shelf so I try to keep all my soaps in rotation now to prevent that. Based on this thread, that may not be the case. Could it possibly be soap that is expiring on the store shelf? Who knows. But with all of the other options out there, GFT is too expensive to buy another puck just to test that hypothesis.

I must confess to a lie here (not really a lie - I think my brain was fixed on the "typical" trumper's products and therefore did not even consider this)

I do have one Trumper's soap - "Officers and Gentlemen" - that I bought a few years ago solely for the name and the picture of the old school calvary soldiers on the box. I have to say that I like this soap. Not amoung my best but I do like it and I think the performance is better than good. I don't know if it is pre-reformulation or if it is a different animal than what above I called "typical" (sold at many vendors, can be found in the wooden bowl. whatever) but either way I like it and think that it is worth a try. It is meant to be a refill for Trumper's scuttle (along with "Oxford Blue," which I have never tried) so the puck is smaller than the other flavors, so if anyone is thinking of trying it, you need to take this into account when accessing it's value to you.

Thanks for the info on this thread...

She's very discerning and will only eat the finest soaps.
Spendur, my friend, frame it on the wall in the shave den as a reminder. On the wall in my shave den, I have another reminder:

Since I could not remember the reason for its disappearance from the shave den, I ordered a couple wooden shave bowls of it, a rose and a sandalwood. This week I used both bowls with a variety of brushes, adjusting the water ratio, and almost doing cartwheels to make a half way decent lather.

This stuff, for such a high price soap, is dreadful. The lather is anemic, its texture lumpy, it lacks moisture, and the cushion and glide are nothing to brag about. What a bust! I understand the soap was reformulated. I don't know about that. All I know is that at one time I liked the soap and now find it worthless.

Through the years I have tried many artisan soaps and creams, most of which I have found to be mediocre or not good at all. Trumper is not an artisan soap. This is a prominent name. What's more, I like the Trumper creams. The soap, though — there is nothing to like about this. And for that money? Oy! I have relegated both pucks to the shower, but I am not expecting much from the soap there either.

No wonder I dumped Trumper soap in the first place.
I am going to have to agree with Obie. I bought a puck of the Sandalwood about 6-7 months ago (reformulated I presume) and could never get it to lather well. I too have tried several brushes and methods all of which produced the same results: a foamy, very thin, cushionless lather that IMHO offered no protection and dried quickly. I will not purchase their soap again.

hmmmmm, a few complaints scattered over time might not get their attention. But, a link to this thread will get a lot of attention. Users actually throwing their product in the trash will get attention especially if upper management reads these horrendous reviews.

Who would buy a Trumper's soap after perusing this thread? Of course, the real intent would be to get their old formula back into production. I do not why they changed the product but these comments should be a real incentive to review their reasoning and intent.

I will save the wooden bowl for a product from a different company.

That said, I was tempted to try a soap but I probably won't now! I'd quite like to try a tube of eucris cream though!
Yes, wish I had bought the cream now, still haven't used thr soap but the smell is really nice, and.the soap bowl is nice too. Looks like I may have a really expensive bar of shower soap.
