Thread: The First Soap

Gentlemen,

If memory serves, Williams was the first soap I used when I started shaving. At least I think it was, for it has been so long. I might have used something else, but Williams is the only one that comes to mind.

At the time, back in the 14th Century, not that many soaps and creams were available, nothing like what we have now. So tell me, do you remember the first soap you used?

Barrister and Mann Seville was my first. Then Tabac. Still have some B&M Seville but its not the same container.

Col Conk almond soap. It lathered like a son if a gun.
And it smelled so lovely.

Col. Conks Amber Shaving soap....and am still surprised what a nice soap it is....great thread Obie, certainly brings back memories....as a matter of fact...that'll be the next shave.

Gillette edge goo in a can, was an orange bottle if memory serves. I only really remember the smell. It always seemed off in some way.

Needless to say, I'm not planning a nostalgia shave.

With wet shaving, plain ol' Van Der Hagen and the boar brush.

My first was a body shop Maca shave tub. Sometime in 2007. Then onto C+Evelyn for a few years before I succumbed and started shipping soaps around the world.

Barbasol. Somewhere along the line I switched to Edge Lime Gel.
First soap with a straight was VDH.
Then this site dragged me down a rabbit hole and I can't even count how many soaps I have. I'm not sure if I love or hate Obie!

Back about 1967 or so it was probably Palmolive or possibly Noxzema shave cream. Still like the Palmolive and miss the Noxzema.

I started wet shaving in 1962, and for me it was Mennen's cream alternating with Old Spice soap, what I watched my father and grandfather use when growing up.

VDH, the pink one.
It worked great, but I couldn't handle the smell, and it over moisturized my skin. I used it twice, and changed to VDH Luxury. Its been kept in rotation ever since.
