Working on a pair of black horn scales for my Dovo. The plastic pearlex ones had warped. This will be my fourth pair of scales, and so far, I'm liking the way they're turning out (better size proportion for the blade than the stock in my opinion). Sorry I didn't take more pictures, but I'll post more when I get them done, pinned up, etc. Attachment 276239
I can say they sure look bigger than the ones in the pic. And the shape/curve on the new ones you made look very nice. Good job!
Got JTmke's razor pinned back up with original bullseye collars, and brass pins.
Took a bit of shifting scales while tightening the pins, but it closes on the money. Probably the most warped and twisted blade I'd ever had to center, but its just like it was originally, no shims, no wear washers. Just some off set pin holes from the maker. :nj

Off to the rocks.!!
Then a final tightening, and clean up on the pins.

That is amazing work Mike. I can't believe those were the same scales I sent you. They were so twisted and worn and chewed.

So on the other end of the spectrum, I am about to completely unpin these.
A Union Cutlery 'Red Dog' and an American-made Wester Bros 'Optimo'.
Lots of scratches in the scales. Dirty pivots. Both are 6/8.
The Optimo had a blued tang. Actually, 13/16 now, but will be 6/8 as I get the frown out.
Think I shall re-blue it and the spine/tip as well.
Was thinking of blowing some clear on the scales while apart....
I have the white and the black wax sticks from outback. White for the Wester and black for the Union.
Wonder if I can gently mist clear over that stuff in the hot-stamps?

Is it possible to straighten out a slight bend in plastic scales without unpinning a razor?
I think I saw a thread where they used steam to straighten plastic scales with the blade attached. It was wedged straight and clamped with bulldog clips and cooled.
