Thread: What are you working on?

The pitting is mostly around the stamp. The "Celebrated" part isn't going to make it, but the Hollow Ground Razor and the makers mark should. Unfortunately the pitting is deep and numerous so I can't imagine getting all of it, but if I can get it shaving again I'll be happy.
The edge seems to have come out ok.

I had one of those that was beyond saving the stamp. I sanded forever on it and it just wasnt coming out very well. I then sent it to Vic. He reground it to a half hollow and got it back to me. Then it wasnt so much work to finish. Some times you just got to call it quits and go to desporate measure. Its now a clean looking W&B and shave great but no etchings and hollower.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 556And that’s what I appreciate about SRP: members reaching out to help one another with advice and expertise. It is comforting to know there are people here who can do what I either cannot do myself or don’t know how to do and are willing to offer their support, knowledge and skill.

Gasman:
Yeah, that's probably what I'm dealing with here.
The pits are deeper than I was hoping.
Here it is with must of the surface rust removed. The "Hollow Ground" stamp is already fading.

Here it is at 800 grit.
I decided I wasn't going to take any more metal from it.
The pitting is going to remain on the "show" side. I didn't want to take it any further down and remove the stamps. Isn't it typical that the unstamped side has no pitting?
Anyway, I'm happy that a $5 W&B in danger of the trash bin is going to be a shaver again. The imperfections will just be character.
I'll just keep increasing the grit from here and shine it up a bit.

I got a couple that i wouldnt want to show close-ups of, but damn good shavers sometimes you just have to say "done". Another thing that can make it look a little better is to do a satin finish. Or a soak in vinegar. This will hide some bits of ugly but close up it will always be rough looking. You can look up how to do both of these finishes here somewhere. Ha.
