Yeah, I was wondering about Tom myself. We all get busy at times. I will disappear myself in August until I get the new school year in a new building figured out (not to mention my record-sized incoming AP class). Yikes-I better get busy!

Well I repinned the pipe razor. Not because I'm done with it but because I'm still working the geometry out and it's easier to work with the stones with the scales on.

I think what happened with this one was someone did an attempt at a restore. I could tell by the pinning job that was all askew. It probably had a lot of hone wear from a heavy x pattern which made the spine narrower at the tip than the tang end. I suspect that when it was restored before they didn't fix the spine wear and that is why it gets a very broad honed area toward the toe and not honed at all toward the heel. I've been gradually reshaping the spine trying not to go too far because, as many of us already know, once you go too far there's no going back.

On the up side, it is tight in the scales and centers pretty much perfectly. It seems a shame to depin again but I still have polishing to do. I ordered some 3M polish as suggested.
You can see the taper of the spine from the pic. I guess I need to get the micrometer out and mic it. I just hesitate to use instruments too much. I prefer to use the eye and the fingers. It is more intuitive if not as precise

Edit: Oh, by the way, I ran through the pyramid progression and finished w the 12k just for kicks. It shaves fine. I'm still not satisfied with it though.

Paul you should start by reducing and reshaping that heel. You will be in for a fight otherwise. There are quite a few threads on how to do that as well as some references earlier in this thread.

Yeah, I've actually been doing that as well. Trying to go slowly to avoid the "now you've done it" phenomenon. I will look further into that though. It's always good to get more information.

I've been looking more at that heel and working on it more than I was. You know how sometimes you get so focused on one thing that you neglect something else?

That’s why posting your progress on SRP is so useful. There is always someone who has been there, done that around to offer a helpful piece of advice.

NIce looking scales. What is the material?

Looks like faux tortoise shell but I don't really know what it's made of.

Looks to be some type of horn.
