Thread: What are you working on?

Very nice! That looks fantastic. You've got me all excited to start on the Wosty I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

I think the C-Mon edge may have come in really nice. I'm letting the beard grow a bit for the test shave this weekend. I've got a feeling that blade is going to sing and talk.

On my Sunday i dug up a synthetic knot that needed a home. Went to Goodwill and found a wooden candle stick. Cut t up and sanded. One coat of Tru-oil then dipped it in some poly to seal the crackes and all. Glued the knot and not its ready to be part of my shave this evening.



Nice job on the Wosty, Mike. Sounds like a lot of work you did to that one.

Tom, i dont have a clue. But the bottom shows the rings from the limb. Like it was a thin limb and turned to shape. I hacked off the top of it.
Just had my shave and the handle feels bulky but not too bad. The knot is extra soft to the face but has enough backbone to work just great. It will go into my usable rotation.

Maybe one of our wood guys might have a clue from this end shot...

Great idea for a brush handle, Jerry! And Mike, I love your Wosty restore-is that some kind of swirly acrylic for the scales? I dig it. Sadly, I've had a big chopper Wosty on my own workbench for weeks now-I just haven't had the time to finish it. Hopefully soon-you guys keep me inspired!

Seems to be, Aaron. I'd much rather see it in its original horn, but that's what was on it. Its one of several razors, that gasman sent to be fixed up for the giveaways. Ones that are a bit above his pay scale.

I'm keeping a record of any that need odd taping, and honing strokes, should one surface. Old wedges can be a lot of fun, ya know..

Got a good start on my Wosty.

Set a rough bevel and got a couple of small chips out of the edge. Is it just this blade or do Wosty's have really hard steel? I spent a lot of time with my 600-800ish stone to finally get the edge fixed, it reminded me of Genco/Geneva steel.

I also got the scales off without damage, so I've got a fairly nice set of Robeson 35H350 if anyone needs them. The pin that was used was steel so it was a little more of a challenge to get out.



Sorry Sharptonn, this ones not going to be shiny...it's got a bit of devil spit. As hard as this steel feels I think it would break me to try and get it out by hand.

Some blades start out almost impervious to sand paper. After a bit they do start to sand a little quicker.

Makes one think of case hardening. There was a thread on case hardening a few years ago.

Jelly, go to town on it. It should do ok and shine up.
