You've got to find a wedge of the correct size, and if needed, use some washer on the inside of the scales to adjust correctly.
It also doesn't fit with all kind of blades, I think it's easier with non-hollow blades.

Retro fitting a set of scales.
One side was broken at time of purchase. I checked my cache of scales from other sets that were broken, and found one that closely matches, but will need a little sanding to make a match to the other original scale. I've already relocated and drilled the wedge pin hole, I will use the dust from sanding and slow cure CA to fill the origanal wedge pin hole.

I believe many of us have boxes of old scales that had trashed blades. I know I do, Tom, you & most likely quite a few more.........
