I can make the puma look better, as long as it shaves I'm happy! Pictures of this will be the next up. Good, bad or in different.

Got Alan's razor apart, inlay polished, and soaking in lacquer thinner . I believe he couldn't have picked a better time to have this done, for the scales were just starting to break down.
Everytime time I tried to unpinn, or cut the scales, they would shatter like glass (very brittle).

Very pleased to see you got it so soon and have started working on it already.
1 question how did you get such a good picture? All mine somehow washed out the gold on the blade. Heck it even seems more visible then when I was holding it in my hands!

I've got four lights on my workbench, that way I don't get any Shadows and turn the blade so there's no Reflection from the lights

A slow walk through an Antique Store, Paid too much! But it may get to a good home! A side project; should I wish to complete the entire stand. I have to make a complete mirror assembly and get it and the stand re-plated. Then I need to find a home for it! " Be careful who you help, you become responsible for them!"

Shaving Stand Mid 1870's Silver plated Reed and Barton shaving stand.
Before...the item was actually blue black with tarnish:

Kind of a nice piece about 12+ inches high. Fanciest I have ever seen.

?????? Finish it myself or sell to someone with the bucks to do a great job of it??????

    Beautiful stand...
Would be a hard decision for even me. Guess the deciding factor for me would be, do I need it or the money. And can I get more, if its completed.

After several hours of soaking in lacquer thinner, the inlay is off.

Next.... Making a template for the scales from a paint stick, and a traceing from another set of scales.
Then cut the scales from African Blackwood.

I figure this wood should make the inlay more visible.

Making another Brush out of soap stone. My carving skill need improving but practice can. Only make me better ( I hope). I have completed the basic shape going to finish off tomorrow. I just popped the knot in to see what it looks like.

I have this, Richard. Needs cleaning and polishing, the bracket is bent. Beveled mirror looks good.
