Now to seal them. Thinking about a simple bee's wax and orange oil finish.

Good old barn wood, there, outback! Will match up with that old Waterville great, I think!
Try a bit on the back of one to see what happens?
Everything went South to-day, so I wanted to do something simple to salvage the day....
Got this Dr. Balfanz off the bay a while back at half the going rate. No doubt because of the cruddy scales.
I like the looks of them. They look a likely shaver. Money is tight, so here goes...
Attachment 235619
Test fit a lot of scales from the pile. The blade is 13/16 and the location of the top pin-hole lent everything to poking the edge out of the bottom. Finally found these. 3-pinned and close to the originals.

Dug out some brass spacers and some old, salvaged double-stacks and proceeded to see if I could get it tight or bust a scale. Got it tight! :D

Reckon I shall push my snake-bit luck a bit farther and tape the spine. Push it around on the green hone a bit!
What could happen? :rofl2:
A great shave in the morning...at the least.
She looks good to me.
Been a quiet couple days for me as the digits heal so I enjoy the eye candy.
Never heard of a Dr. Balfanz before but that cleaned up super Tom. Nice shoulder less grind.
I wish I knew how they ground those.. How they do/did that graceful cut in back on the tang,,,,nice lookin razor..reminds me of the Rosetta grind somewhat..
:beer1:
Indeed, Mike, I brought that up in the Japanese razor thread. YOU were there! ;)
Here!

Unlike the Rosettes and other Japanese blades ground similar, The Dr Balfanz is properly marked Solingen.
Some in old threads have speculated that Dovo made them. I have not seen the connection, myself.
So it is made in the Japanese style for Japan in Germany.
Now, I am seeing this connection in many German-made razors from Japan.
