Ya know that feeling when you go to pin up a razor, only to realize you used up all your brass rod and need more before you can do anything?

Brass rod in the B52 box.. Some bronze, I have totally liked the bronze!
Bronze rod? Ain't never seen that at the local hobby store Tom. That would be appreciated indeed to try on some old ones. Thank you kind sir.. : chapeau
I even used up all those brass nails that AJ's washer sleeves were mounted on that you sent me last time and just forgot to hit the store. Oh well, can polish up the blade some more before final assembly..
A very long time ago Roal sent me some brass and some nickel silver wire that I have been using. I have to say I like it more than the rod I had before, mostly because it is so consistent in both thickness and hardness.
Well, both of you will be floated some bronze rod to use. Neat stuff!
I have a couple of silly questions, seeing as we are talking about supplies. What size of nickel silver wire if correct for attaching shell to a nickel silver backer? The next question is related to the first. What is the metallic backer used on classic shell scales? Any idea where to find both?
I have some thin silver wire I can send which I have used with great results.
Things glued-down and drilled-out. Can be peened-in nicely!
Also I was wondering if instead of the traditional metal liner on shell scales if some 1/16" G-10 would be about the right strength or if it would need to be thicker. I need to order some if I go with G-10 for my shell backer.
Gluing in then peening sounds like a clever trick, never tried such exotic materials though so haven't gotten into blind peens and such. Sounds like an interesting project Shaun.
The puma scale cleaned up with some patience, folded over wet dry paper, served wet. And some judicious sanding in the corners. Quite relieved I didn't have too spend to much time at that step.

Going to hit Home Depot, maybe a local RC store tomorrow on the way home from work. See what they have in the way of stock..
