If it works, I'm probably going to convert a couple of 2 and 3" contact wheels I have into a 32" leather flat bed set up. Connect it to my reversible dc drive and see if it helps with the polishing of a few concave blades I have lying about. Got the idea from watching some of those old grinding videos. A series of different dia wheels and some very supple leather should do the trick. Course, this is all speculation till I try.

not to keen on it my self though
I've had a few chemicaly stiffened leather wheels before. Didnt like them for much except brass cleaning. The idea of the different dia wheels, and the variable speed of the drive is what I hope will make this set up more usable for my turning tools. That and the pastes and sprays I have now I didn't have then..
Will be a fun experiment for 30$ in leather straps.

Bill, have you ever considered using the shavings left from turning ivory and using it along with something like a Urethane and casting scales or such?Quote:
