Thanks for that, I'll be watching that video and reading up when i get home. From what i remember the stuff is quite remarkable! Like magic really. I remember watching that infomercial thinking "yeah right".
So basically, I can put that on, heat it up and peen it shut, or fill it with hot material without the heat issues...

I saw the video by Charlie and it seems to stop the issues related to over heating the blade. So presumably you could heat the tip which would allow you to close the hole without damaging the blade. You only need to heat a small section at the tip so shouldn't take to much to heat such a small area.
As I said probably ott but it should work and you did askMy wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Here's a W&B I got early on & it was damaged at the toe so my good friend who is into his straights probably more than I am asked me if he could shorten it & hone it so I let him do it, not that I couldn't. It's a shorty for sure & has some hone wear at the heal in which you can see a slightly wider bevel at the heal but not too much. As you can see the edge is around 2" where it starts to radius up at the heal & overall length is 5 1/2"

Here's another W&B I have which is nice because it has a beveled spine but as you can see it has a crack at the heel. I will work that one myself & make some nice scales for it. It also has a smile to it so I'll try to keep it smiling.

Oh yeah! Another fine shave saved from despair!
I've been wanting to find one of those rare broken W&B big blades. Seems you don't see them too often.. especially the wedges, but yeah I don't see one of those breaking too easy..
The second one you showed, I've got a French blade with a crack a similar spot, I'll show pics later when I'm home. Well I usually figure heal breaks are a death sentence but then I thought "maybe grind in one of those finger rest spikes..". Could be cool?
I haven't worked on my most recent shorty, been too busy, thanks for sharing.

Okay here it is finally. Got busy with other things.
Here is a French one that came in a Lot and at first thought it was a bad spot for a crack.. Until I realized that a shorty that has been shortened from the heal could possibly be a better shaver that a shorty shortened from the toe! Reason being that a toe shortened blade only really falls short in giving enough room... the blade is a little close to your hand, a little crowded.
But with a heal shortened blade, it gives plenty of clearance and reach while giving that short blade appeal.. of course if you like shorties, which I do, they are good for contours. IMHO
So here it is, the black marker in one picture shows the crack, the other photo shows what I plan to grind out.
This could look really cool!!! I think maybe better than just curving up and around crack to the tang.. ehhh?“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

Oh I feel lame for not knowing the name off hand. Its down stairs. Its a French straight razor. A quarter hollow I believe.
I just got several French blades in the mail and this one was one of the cracked ones. At first I was bummed out but am now excited because I think its gonna shave well and look very cool
Edit: What do you think about the spike.. uhh thingy what do you call it? dont know if it has a name.Last edited by MikeT; 08-26-2015 at 04:59 AM.
