"Broken Blade Rescue Mission" Thread!

So here it is! Its got temporary hexheads in and will be finished tomorrow.. And it looks great I think, one Ill keep in my collection, maybe use it for those hard to get spots, I dont know.

But if any of you want to share your rescued blades OR perhaps you too will show mercy on those poor blades who have had their dignity stripped and sit idle in a junk straight razor graveyard by fixing them up... well that would be great to see!


The same thing has happened to me but I learned a lesson from it.

Mike if you're talking about me, you can see a pic of the blade I ground to a much better smile & sold it. I kinda regret it now but I'm happy that someone else will make it a veery nice blade & I stressed to him that if he could not hone it, to have it professionally honed. Yeah, I'm content though. I was needing some money & it surprised me it jumped up to $63, as much as one would pay for a whole razor, scales & all!

I know. The smiler was a different one I think. I still have this two I can do something with but you said to wait until you have a meet up. it doesn't matter. At the time I was upset that I broke them. I can do a lot of things here instead of waiting.

Okay well after a long week of relatives disrupting my Straight Razor Zen Time (SRZT) Im finally finished with this one!!!
A Henckels #40 that was broken at end but had very little hone wear and some light pitting. Worth the fix!
It would have taken alot less time to just cut down the old scales, but Im glad I listened to you guys! This I think is much better than it would have been otherwise.
The scales are horn from an old french razor that were broken on both ends and I never thought I would use them so glad I didnt toss them out! The wedge WAS amber and then it snapped in half because the holes were to small and amber has low tensile strength and splits easy. Sucks because it was beautiful. I ended up using fossilized walrus tusk secondary dentine (the core), it has a marbled look, I really like it. But walrus tusk in general is not suitable for use because it expands and contracts so much so it needs to be fossilized which limits its application. Anyway thats what an expert told me..? The pins are brass and the collars are sterling silver.
Used neetsfoot oil on the scales, that stuff is great! Tried to go with a vintage finish instead of getting scales perfect black, and the scales were eaten up bad by worms or beetles dont know which. So there are some "character" worm holes...
I am really happy with this one!

Well to be honest this was the first time using it on horn. And it seemed to me that it totally revived it! Really transformed it from dry and greyish to a rich darker color and more transparency (cant really see in the pics..). Let it soak for an hour wiped it off and polished it a bit on the wheel. The pics are fro my phone (crappy)... in person its so much nicer. I carried it around with me in a sunglasses sock for a while today because i just like it! lol
