Are you looking for a satin or polished finish.
If satin... 1000 grt. W/D paper, then I like to use theses and a dremmel.
Though it may be possible to use after 600 greaseless.
Just never tried, because scratches are usually uneven after greaseless.

They are basically a scotchbrite wheel , grits unknown .

    For polished finish....
You'll have to run the W/D gaumet to 2500 or better. YMMV

Nice! Where can one buy those things? For this heljestrand I'm doing satin finish on the tang and spine, mirror on the blade face.

After the 600 you just have to be patient & do a lot of sanding in progressions with wet or dry sandpaper. You'll eventually get it done like you want it. It'll just take some time but you'll get there my friend. Once you get done sanding, polish it out. Once you start polishing, you use the black rouge to get the scratch marks out & If I remember right, I think it's the white rouge that ya use for the final polishing. I might be wrong though but I'm just going by memory & I'm in a hurry. I gotta get somewhere.
    Good luck!

I got mine from a vendor at our local flea market, wich is held outside. But their done till the weather breaks next year.

So I'm going to make my own by cutting them out myself, and addapting them to a arbor for my dremmel.

Dremel makes these buggers which I have found are tons better than the cheap ones.
The 511E includes a coarse (gray) and a medium (black) and the 512E has 2 fine ones (maroon)
You still have to sand, but they help, FME.

I too hand sand most of what I do. The only time I use the greaseless is if a blade is in fairly tough shape. My typical progression is 1K grit dry to get a good look. Then it may go straight to walnut she'll in the tumbler. If it goes to the tumbler it is typically already in great shape. Otherwise I may drop to 600 or maybe even 400. Then up. Then to the tumbler there to the black and white greaseless and perhaps crox. Unless it's getting a satin in which case after the black it get 1k wet in a single direction. I am still working on a great satin.

I've noticed the same thing when going from greaseless to emery.
Always default back to paper as well..
