I was wondering how that works. The inlay on the scale must also relate to the locating the scale on the table. Centre finding and keeping the item in place on the bed is likely very important too. It's the little things that add up isn't it

Secondly, turning the scale sideways makes plotting your references much more challenging.
Thought I had it so I ran the scale through the etcher.

And I don't like the placement on the scale. Think I need to grid the scale lightly so I can get some proper references.

Ah well, maybe I can sand these down past the etch and reshape, otherwise, a few fresh slices of polyester and start over.
It dont look too bad Mike.
But... If your gonna do it, do it right. Is what your sayin...eh [emoji6]

Yup, do it right or do it the most righteous you can wit what you have.

The way I have this laser set up currently it will always go to the dead centre of the image, but if the image isn't square to the image window, like in this case where my picture taken of the inlay was left of center in the camera frame, everything shifted left. Ooops.
And there isn't really an X/Y grid on the table top so basically my 'eyeballing it' didn't cut it.
Happily I was able to sand below the first pass etch relatively quickly, during which I was able to gauge the depth and evenness of burn based on how the material came off with sanding. Really consistent depth across the entire image, which to me means I will have even glue coverage under the inlays on finished works.
    Time to try again.

More like internet lazy, had over a thousand e mails too.
Ran out of dishes...had to clean them also. Now I get to put a clean bevel on my Shumates Batber and Hugo's Victor. Then I'll have to clean up another razor.
Clean, clean, clean. Maybe SWMBO wants to be dirty [emoji57]

    ...snip...
Try burning the image into a piece of double sided tape on the table. Then you can align and stick down your scale from there. Similar to printer's layout Methods.

Edit: Also, if you use a piece of clear plastic the same outline of your scale you may be able to make an outline of it to position your work-piece. Or just the two hole positions and a tack!
